Mid-Air Collision near LGB

Telling GA pilots to go away, is like wearing a t-shirt that says I love Sherman, then walk from Atlanta all the way to Savannah.

huh?

I think if we just started charging user fees for all these annoying "little cessna's" there would be no more mid-airs and they would stay out of Velocipedes way. :sarcasm:

New to the site and all, <left-handed jabs unnecessary....make your point without them, or refrain from posting>

I also would support userfees if airline captains / copilots had to pay the userfees of their fresh in flight school wannabe captains / copilots.

As for GA not "needing" to be in the air. Do your passengers, and thus you, NEED to be in the air? Many of them are doing the same thing I'm doing. Flying for pleasure - to go someplace new or to see family. Flying for business? They can just skype!!

GA has just as much right to be in that area, or any other "busy" area as do the heavies. User fees wont change that.

I'm draining through my hard earned money fly circles and sitting on ground waiting while you guys come straight in are hauling tail. Get out of my way next time and see how you like it.

Well hasn't my thread gone awry? :bandit:

Let's tuck it back in our pants and discuss what has happened in this busy, busy airspace. Usefee's have nothing to do with two aircraft bending some metal off the coast.

Fly to Tulsa, there is a field of them just east of the RVS airport. I think they stand around 2,700msl. Freakin huge if you ask me, since we did all of our maneuvers at 2500 feet.

How did this thread go from a mid-air to what it currently is?

I am wondering the same thing. Please keep in mind that three fellow pilots died in this accident. Tragic to be sure. I would hope that as the details and facts of this accident come out, that we can all learn from this accident. In the meantime, please say a prayer for the loved ones left behind.

How many times do I have to tell you guys how dangerous the LGB/SNA area is?

I hate to post a link like this, but I feel it is necessary to prove a point. I guess it's only GA who makes mistakes. Just browse the videos here and tell me what'cha think velo.

FWIW, I'm gonna go out on a limb here and say that approximately 75% of ALL airline pilots came from a GA background (i.e. non-military). And the future of the airlines is looking like about 90% will be from GA. Face it Velo, you are a dying breed, and the future is in GA. For training and otherwise.

Lol this reminds me. Soon after I got my pilots license I got a talking to by a Learjet pilot. I said I got my pilots license and I fly to Sedona as well as do some flying Samaritans stuff. He proceeded to tell me for 5 minutes how I was a danger to myself and my passengers. This kind of surprised me because we hadn't discussed anything that would prompt that kind of reaction.

He said he wouldn't even want to know one of those "VFR" pilots because you can't be safe in the air without TCAS and synthetic vision on an IFR flight plan.

I chuckled and went on my merry way but that triggered me to think that there are a lot of people in aviation who surround themselves with technology & have this inflated sense that ATC is their to save them from carelessness... Its as though aviation safety is somehow no longer about airspeed, altitude, and 'see & avoid'. Sure in a lear that'd be hard but its very feasible in smaller planes, if you're looking.
