Malaysia Airlines 777 missing

They were still incredibly vague on how they actually determined all of this, something about a new strategy with satellites that had never been used before?

Doppler. I guess when they determined the angle from the satellite (north and south tracks), they also recorded some characteristics of the signal and were able to determine if it was moving closer or farther from the satellite.

In otherwords....PFM.

I believe in a year or two some tourist on a beach somewhere will find what will be a piece of MH370 ........ but how when or why will never be found , this is real life not Hollywood!

I think now, based on information coming out lately the exact opposite.

With technology available, the easier access than AF447 wreck site (terrain wise anyway) they will find the recorders.

Here's the thing. IF it was a deliberate act, the CVR/FDR would or may have been disabled (Im told possible via circuit breakers)

If it was a accident, the CVR may not have enough info, but the FDR should have plenty of information, and without the CVR they will be able to ascertain to some degree of certainty what happened.

At this point, this is the most mysterious aviation accident in history (my opinion anyway) hopefully the authorities go to the ends of the earth to figure out exactly what happened.

The announcement today by the Malaysian Government just doesn't sit right with me but I can't totally figure out why. Part of it is what do they know today that they didn't know yesterday? ABC reported that they texted the families because they were going to make the announcement soon in a press conference and didn't want that to be how the families learned the news. What was the rush? Not leaning toward tin foil hat theories here but it just doesn't feel right.

It doesn't sit right because it isn't really based on fresh information. If I understand the chronology, Inmarsat was pointing to the Indian Ocean over a week ago.

This is indicative of the 24 hours news cycle.

I haven't watched television for almost a week. I turn on cable news and they've got the "Dun daah DOOO DUNT!" "Breaking News!" and keep yammering as if there's something that they've found, but they just haven't gotten to revealing yet.

So I wait, and I wait.

I go to my usual "hard news' sources online and there is, in fact, nothing newsworthy to break.

Yup. I was at the gym on the treadmill during the Malaysian Prime Ministers speech on three of the cable news networks. Kept refreshing the AP and BBC News aps. Nothing...

I have to believe there is *much* that has not been released. I have "heard" outrageous claims that there are satellites that can tell what brand of golf ball is in play. Who knows? I bet the Govt. knows more than it being let on.

Flight 370 search suspended amid bad weather.

Weather grounded search planes. Gale force winds would make any air and sea search activities hazardous...

Boats will resume searching Wednesday if weather allows.

I'm curious since Malaysia Airlines didn't subscribe to the more advanced, more expensive data system if they possibly cut corners on some of these ADs or never followed up on fixing them.

I brought up a similar point early in this thread. What makes foreign carriers comply with ADs?? It's the FAA that issues them so they legally do not apply to foreign carriers right?

I would hope they would take the advice of an agency such as the FAA.

Malaysia Airlines has been struggling to make a profit for the past 3 years. Thats not unusual but this article explains just how much they were losing. It sounds like they were getting swallowed up by a few low cost competitors.

Yeah I don't think the emergency landing in Hong Kong help either! Ha

I think they are being slightly sketchy about everything. There is more evidence pointing to them hiding something then there is from the airplane.

I guess the U.S. Navy is sending some special equipment in order to help with the search.

U.S. Sends Sea Search Equipment

WASHINGTON, March 24, 2014 – As the United States continues to support the search for the Malaysian Airlines Flight 370, the Navy is sending a towed pinger locator, as well as a Bluefin-21 autonomous underwater vehicle, to Perth, Australia, Pentagon Press Secretary Navy Rear Adm. John Kirby said today.
