Are there a lot of seattle overnights out of LAX?

Oh and the plane has headsets right?

Yea, like a zillion! I feel like I'm SEA based sometimes. You can leave LAX day one and not see it until the last leg of day 4 of 5 because you've been doing turns out of SEA the middle days. It's nice though, things run much more smoothly up there. The hotel is ok, consistent would be a good word. I don't mind it.

There's one pair of DC clamps. But I wouldn't use those, they're all kind go greasy. Lol!

I have Bose A20's, people use them on the 170? Is it pretty standard to take off the clamps going through 18?

This airplane isn't loud, and I doubt it's loud enough to cause hearing loss. 85 db is the standard for the point where ear plugs are necessary when exposed to noise, and the average alarm clock from 2 feet away is 80 db.

If the plane isn't as loud as your alarm clock, you're probably fine.

I leave them on because the main reason I got them was to protect my hearing. But I will adjust them to be a little less tight.

About one in ten Captains I have flown with goes "topless" in cruise or on the ground.

Can someone give me a rough timeline for how training works? I have a class date on Jan 29th and know where to report on that date, but what happens next?
How many days is it from the orientation until you start home study?

If its a short time between the 29th and home study, say maybe 4-5 days, I might just pony up for a hotel and then head home after. If its longer maybe find something more suitable to the length.

After that I am really banking on simulators outside of MSP.

You will be in MSP the 29th and whatever you do with your time after that is up to you. Home study starts the 29th effectively. And just one piece of advice, don't bank on anything in this industry. You'll set yourself up for disappointment. Plan for MSP sims and if you get something else consider that a bonus.

So pretty much I can head back home immediately that day? I am told to report to PanAm that day at 8am. What time might I be done?

Agreed as for the sim location. Banking might be a poor word choice. Wishing or hoping might convey my point better.

My class finished at 2pm. I stayed at the Holiday Inn and split a room. Took the hotel shuttle to Pan Am, then caught a ride with a local guy I met in class to the airport where you can jumpseat with your company badge. They provided us lunch (jimmy johns).

I thought I posted this earlier but apparently it didn't post, lol. I was offered some great deals on hotels in the area using HotelPlanner.com.

Input information as to what you're looking for (price, location, length of stay, etc) and you'll be assigned an agent that you can contact if you'd like or just let the system do it's thing. It sends your request directly to the hotel managers in the area and they will offer a price for you based on your bid.

I got an offer for $42 a night for the Quality Inn & Suites, about 10-12 mins from the training center. Microwave & fridge in the rooms, free breakfast, Denny's attached to the hotel, daily maid service if you want it, staff seems very friendly and willing to help however they can, Walmart Supercenter is about a 5 min walk across the street, free wifi (although not the fastest, but works) seems like a nice place. There's an airport shuttle and a shuttle for Mall of America.

http://www.qualityinn.com/hotel-bloomington-minnesota-MN082 If you call the hotel directly, ask to speak to Mukesh Patel (the GM) and tell him you're with Compass Airlines for training, recommended by Richard (me) - he may be able to work something out with you without going through HotelPlanner.

I've got the OK from my training supervisor and the hotel manager to have him arrange a deal (not sure of price yet) for new hires and to include this hotel in the new hire information packet. Will post more info as the details are worked out, but he said he could offer the night prior to first day of indoc for free, so you could see the property. Only bad news is there isn't a shuttle that takes you to the training center, so you're on your own for transportation.

What are you comparing it to?
It's very loud on the jumpseat.
