Life at Compass

135 Pax Metroliner SIC. Nothing glamorous but hoping a couple hundred hours of some 135 multi turbine crew time will help me out. I know its not easy to get in at Compass but this is where I want to be so I am gonna give it all I have. I have a friend on the inside who has my resume ready to drop at the recruiting managers office... he told me to get my stuff done ASAP even though I'm about 125 short on my total time (@ 50 hrs/month) they might interview early. Not holding my breath, but its worth a shot. Will know more this week, just have to get the last of the boxes checked.

Any tips or suggestions are appreciated, as always.

Took me about 8 weeks to get the interview invite and after the phone screening about 6 weeks to schedule the actual interview (interview towards the end of August)
*experiences may vary

I'm currently flying as PIC on a metro so hopefully we end up in a class together, if all goes well at the interview. I'm sure we would have some fun stories to swap about the Texas lawn dart

Good luck! You've got the right attitude and hopefully they will see that. Keep updating your airline apps and hopefully you'll get the call!

Well I've got a strange situation after attending the interview today.

Took and passed all three tests (cognitive, psych and job knowledge). Somehow the Delta computer program that Compass uses showed me as failing and I could not continue to the panel interview.

It's really a strange situation and the HR guy didn't have an answer as to why I could have failed after passing all three exams.

It's frustrating after putting in so much effort to prep for this interview. Everyone I encountered were all very nice and I was encouraged to reapply in a few months

so they came to you and said that you passed and then later on said you failed.....or? Because for me the Computer didn't say anything about pass or fail, I didn't find out I passed until I was told in person

I finished the exams and was told I passed all three. However due to some weird thing with software that apparently takes all three scores and spits out a final score, I did not pass.

HR said it has happened a few times recently and they don't know why. It's Delta's proprietary software and they have no clue how I could pass all three but then somehow combine the total scores and fail. Very weird.

I know someone who's cognitive test score crashed at the very end, at least he was able to retake that. That really is an awful situation to be in.

Some updates from the rumor*coughcough*school house:

-classe sizes are supposedly going to 10/week starting in September.

-tablets are a high priority. Good news is they were told iPad airs, but the downside is they won't have Jepps... 9e folk know where I'm going with this.

-still no info on AA basing or routes.

let's push out those class dates! I wanna know! i had also heard weekly classes of 10 in sept but nothing other than rumor so far.

There's a glitch in the Matrix.
When I took it at Expressjet i asked to see the results after and they said it was pretty much jibberish, the computer does all the grading. No you got a 80% for example. I am sure its identical because well, they are the same.

But if the computer says I passed all three tests then how does the final score come out as a fail?

I have zero experience with these types of interviews (yet!) but what I think everyone is confused about is that it seems the computer does NOT tell you if you pass/fail. From what others said, a human being tells you after if you have passed and can move on. So what did you see on the computer that said you passed?

Trying to learn for when/if my call comes.

I saw nothing on the computer, it does not tell you a score.

The human being (HR rep) told me I passed all three tests, HOWEVER he also told me that due to some weird algorithm that the proprietary software they use and Delta owns that I failed overall. It makes no sense whatsoever.

Compass HR is totally confused about this phenomenon.

I haven't been there or taken the tests but let's say you got a passing score of 75/100 on each of the 3 tests. Your average score on the 3 tests will be 75. But if the software was written to use an average score of 80% from all 3 tests then it'll say you failed. So it's for HR to properly clarify that unless they do not also know the average score the software is using but can see the passing score on each test.

It's not that weird. It's like the AFOQT or the ASVAB. Every section will give you a score and you need a minimum passing score on each one, but you also need a total score that's passing. It allows you to be weak in one area, but you have to make up for it by being strong in another area.

For example a minimum passing for each test might be 65, but a combined score needs to be 225. Say you get a 65 on the job knowledge, you're ok as long as you make up for it with at least 80 on the cog and personality.

I say learn from it and prepare yourself for another chance in a couple of months.
