Life at Compass

Swimming in the pool? If you wanna talk to me about swimming in the pool you should talk to @ClarkGriswold about my experience swimming in the pool.

You interview one day after someone else and yet your DOH is 1.5 years apart...

In all seriousness though, congrats and I know you'll be sitting in orientation learning how not to sexually harass people while trying to create an email password and eating Jimmy John's at the same time, before you know it.
And A.T.I.S reports. Don't forget those.

I am also a firm believer that the airplane should be an actual recording of "Eh Tee Eye Ess Report" when an acars message comes up.

I've suppressed, "Eh, Tee, Eye, Ess" and a bunch of other painful memories from the schoolhouse.

Still remember Jimmy John's on the first day though. Only meal of the entire shebang. :)

For the new guys, I think you'll like it here. So far, it's a really good place to be. Good luck!
We had some pretty good meals, thanks to the Misses! Man, I'd go for some of that lasagna right about now. And that chili!

is there currently a pool? interviewing next week and would love to get an early aug class.
there's about 30 in the pool, the last known class date was Aug 7, and thats full, they are waiting to announce about the fall now

How's their commuter policy?

Contract notes from page 26-18 (Section 26 General BB. Commuter Policy)

Must list primary and backup flights that:
-Have adequate seats within 24hrs prior to departure
-Have reasonable weather for arrival/departure airports
-Scheduled to arrive at airport assigned to commence his trip in a reasonable time before scheduled to report for duty
-Pilot may use jumpseat privileges for primary and backup flights on which he is listed

If the pilot doesn't use a electronic reservation system accessible by the company, he will provide documentation that he complied with above standards.

So basically -
2 flights that will get you there reasonably before showtime, electronic/email/or paper proof, can use jumpseat listings so it doesn't have to be based on passenger only available seats.

NOW THE WARNING PART: (Page 26-18 (Section 26 General BB. Commuter Policy)
"This provision can be used up to 3 times in a rolling 12 month period.....thereafter even if pilot has complied with the provisions chief pilot at their discretion, will determine his eligibility to use this policy"

That being said....I don't know of ANY pilots that have gotten in trouble with this. So I have the impression that as long as your covering your bases and being reasonable.....you don't have an issue.

Thanks for that! I've been living in base here in IAH with XJT - never commuted. I'll be living in ATL, and I'm sure it'll be an adventure. Are you able to see if the jumpseat is available or not? We're unable to check that here at XJT, so basically any flight counts as one with open seats (it's always assumed the J/S is empty for our commuter policy is the way I understand it).

Also, what are the schedules like? Are most at min days off until you get to the very top or is there a nice progression in QOL as you build seniority. I've always gone for max days off at XJT and credit where I can get it.

Where do you fly out of in Houston? I'm out at sport flyers .

We use the same listing/flight info system that Delta and all of DCI use- it will show standbys listed, and those checked in on the airport standby page....sometimes you can make a guess based on double listings if someone has checked in/changed a listing for the jumpseat- but technically we don't know if jumpseat listed or not. So it will probably be just like the system you have now.

As far as company metal-you can make a email/phone request to be put on the release as a jumpseater also. That's the company reservation option on Compass.

Congrats did they let you know at the interview or called later, my interview is coming up soon. Any tips not yet posted?
hired!
Can't wait to start training. I was thoroughly impressed with everyone involved in the hiring process. Everyone was so nice and made it such a low threat environment.

Congrats @ian

@spitfire5181 - I'm curious what Ian says, but for myself (almost 4yrs ago) and what I've heard from others- they will tell you after a short break if your hired or not post panel interview.
