Life at Compass

Because I saw the corrective action for this deferral on that airplane, I can say it was most definitely written up when nothing was missing or broken. @juxtapilot knows ;)

Don't get me wrong, I'm all for writing things up when they're broken or missing. I don't know anyone who isn't. Especially since you can defer most common issues and avoid a delay. But I'd like to save those necessary maintenance delays for the real issues :)

There are those that have and those that will.

I had the plane today.... It was written up.. and the corrective action was "um... this is not broken/missing".

Well, yeah...if it ain't broken or missing, then someone screwed up. Maybe it's my Republic mentality bleeding through, but if there's something not right, it needs to be written up.

Anyone park at the Van Nuys FlyAway shuttle for LAX?
$4/ day so not sure about how reimbursement will cover that

Ok, guys, a couple of questions.

I've been a rah for a couple of years now and have been thinking about bailing. When I first started thinking about leaving (about a year ago) I initially wanted to go to compass, but I never heard from them. I got an interview offer for almost everyone else...SKW, Mesa, TSA, Endeavor, but no Compass. Until now...

Have I missed the train at Compass? Are upgrade times still good looking? Junior bases? How is reserve?

I've heard a lot of really good things about Compass, and still feel I would like to work there, I just don't know if another lateral move is worth the risk.

It is my opinion, which is worth exactly what you pay for it, that upgrade times are about to increase by a lot. After the bid that's out right now, a lot of guys who didn't have the time to upgrade will finally be able to.

I'll let the people who've been around longer comment on upgrade times and reserve.

Base-wise, you'll get LAX or SEA, with MSP possible within a few months.

Good luck in your decision!

I think there's going to be one more "big" bid after this current one, then it's upgrading for attrition. If you're not on property this week, I wouldn't count on a quick upgrade.

I would agree with my "esteemed colleague". I am a March 2014 new hire and have 120 hours to go. The guys senior to me by a month are hitting their time and people a month or two after me are probably closer to the 1,000 than I am.

It's a crystal ball type thing because there are so many variables... It does seem like the wave is approaching its end, however majors are supposed to be hiring like crazy pretty soon for age 65, and that's going to really ramp up attrition. Most of the people at Compass aren't trying to be lifers. I don't think it will be an instant upgrade but I think it will remain competitively shorter than it's peers on average. Of course if more airplanes show up that would make a difference, too. There's enough hiring still continuing on to have a decent QOL as a middle-of-the-pack seniority FO until things work out, and majors are going to be taking more and more people directly from the right seat anyway. If LAX or SEA basing works out good for you, I can't see why you'd go anywhere else, but a lateral move would depend on your own personal situation I guess. I wouldn't expect to come on property and upgrade right away.

I agree with everyone above. The guaranteed quick upgrade is gone. I don't know anything about Republic, so I can't comment on whether you'll upgrade faster here or there. I think our second year FO pay is more than topped out FO pay at Republic. And we have cancellation pay.

I hope there's at least one more big one. I can't take this next upgrade round because of my wedding date. So hopefully I can get the one after.

Guys thanks. This is all good food for thought. When I mentioned "quick upgrade" I certainly wasn't counting on an immediate upgrade. Right now at my current shop, I'm looking at 19 months assuming upgrades continue at the rate they are... BIG assumption. If I could upgrade in a year I would be beyond happy.

I guess I'm just really nervous about all the stuff going on here and really don't see substantial qol and pay changes coming down the pike here.

Right now I'm thinking, with the little I know of compass, even if I went there and movement stopped all together I would STILL be in a better position than if I stayed.

Just don't know what to do.
