Kansas City PEPC

Were any of the other guys as surprised as I was about the number of hot prospective female ATCers? I figured it would be something of a sausage fest. I'd be lying if I said I didn't fall in love at LEAST 4 times...

Uh, yeah... every gal I've come across in this process. No joke. I don't know how they expect us to concentrate on the job. :) Four times? I've fallen in love at least six counting the ATSAT.

Had a great dinner with the other five of you guys from New York and KC... although I can't remember your names to save my life right now, at least your JetCareers names. It's been a long night at the Power&Light district. Hopefully we can all do the same @ Bricktown in OKC :)

Also, the FAA people made a few LOVELY COMMENTS about this very thread!! HI, FOLKS!

Took 4 Hours....Not bad at all....... TOL finally in hand and now the waiting starts again :) ..... Now time for dinner with a bunch of people at Jack Stacks :)

Jack Stacks was freaking PHENOMENAL. I live in Texas and work with a bunch of rednecks, so anytime I hear anybody pop off about how amazing *Insert name here*'s BBQ is, I'm usually all like "", but Stack's was the real deal. Had a great meal there with my buddy and a couple of other applicants, who provided some excellent company. Also, our waiter at Stack's was a stand up dude. Out of nowhere, he walked up to the table and gave us a round of tasty alcoholic beverages on the house. I highly recommend this establishment to anybody who isn't a vegetarian/vegan. (Even their corn side dish has copious amounts of delicious pig in it.)

It is THE best in Kansas City. It isn't cheap though. For those that don't eat meat but eat fish, their grilled trout is PHENOMENAL, as is the salmon. Try to onion rings and mushrooms for appetizers.

Actually I was pretty impressed with some of the selection of females in KC. One of the HR reps was pretty good looking...

I'm glad I made an impact on you. LOL. You don't even remember my name! I'm Bobby. Now don't forget!!! Haha

I just didn't wanna post it for everyone to see, but, I don't think any of us are shy. And, whoever that was on page 17, stop hitting on my HR rep!

Is your HR rep the nice'n cute 5'5" woman with glasses?? The rings killed it for me... :D:p

MCI PEPC was a pleasure and for waking up at 5:15am after only about 5hrs of sleep I was wide a wake that morning for my 7am showtime...I think the walk and water helped.

Loved this hotel but decided not to walk. Just couldn't see myself making it up that steep hill on 9th and still coming out presentable on the other side.

The hills on 12th, 11th and locust weren't bad, so I never saw 9th. The part that bothered me was the fact that my suit was acting as a magnet for bums and "jewlery salesmen". :laff:

Someone please tell me the city is more lively on a Friday night. I was quite shocked at how dead the place was. I felt like I was on a movie set.
The "Power and Light District" is admittedly a cool place, but it's lacking any sort of human activity.

When I wandered around there I encountered so few people, I thought half the places were closed.

Glad to hear we made a impression and such Scongdon....... Yes dinner with you and CBoy was quite a good time and damn was the KC BBQ fantastic....... Glad to be back in NY though after the load of problems my flight home had....

What went wrong with your flight?

By the way.. if you want some real Kansas City Barbeque, don't go to a restaurant, come home with me and my buddies next year on the 4th. It's on a Saturday, and we'll all (hopefully) be off from the academy. All five of you guys from Friday are welcome... it's just a little six and a half hour drive. :D

To whomever was commenting about the HR rep... yeah, that's her. And she's --- MY --- HR rep. Thanks. Welcome.

-First flight was delayed a few minutes......
-Nice 3 hour and 45 Minute layover at MSP
-Finally begin boarding to find out they moved our seats from the back of the plane seats over the wings.... NEAR THE ENGINES :(
-Push Back 15 Minutes Late..... Pilot Says We Gotta Be Deiced which takes 30 minutes
-De-Icer notices something on the wing so we need to return to the gate......
-TUGGED back into the gate which took another 15 minutes...
-Pilot runs out and comes back within 5 minutes and we have to change planes.....
-Started at Gate C10......New Plane was G21......OTHER SIDE OF AIRPORT :(
-Get to other plane to be told...it was shutdown for the night and will take 20 minutes to get online for departure....... Then we get to board....
-Have to wait for the caterering carts and baggage to get moved from the other plane which is on the other side of the airport as well as fuel......
-Finally push back....and guess what.... We need to De-Ice which takes another 25 minutes.....
-We finally left....
-We didn't get home till after midnight :(

You're lucky. It took the Air Force over an hour to de-ice our plane last night. Of course this is the first snow of the year here so they're all new at this.

I was lucky, nonstop flight MCI-EWR took 2.5 hours. :) :nana2:

does anybody KNOW when our insurance will start? does it start at the academy, or does it start when we get to our facility? i can't imagine that they would have us go to the academy for 4 months and expect us to not have insurance.

All that info is on the OPM website, but it looks like everyone and their mother is on there right now and I can't get any of the insurance pages to load (may also be due to open enrollment going on right now).

went to SM. looks like we will have insurance if we want it after the first pay period at the academy. thanks for checking though.

While signing my TOL with Brenda Rogers on the 4th floor on Tuesday at the 18NOV08 PEPC, I asked about the accrual of vacation/personal/sick time while at the Academy, because my fiancée and I are trying to finalize a wedding date. I was told "benefits" start on day 1 at the Academy. It's actually related to the reason why the PUBNATx announcement series for OTS applicants is a "temporary position not to exceed 13 months". While actual time in OKC is typically 3 months, that statement by some regulation qualifies us for benefits. I imagine insurance would be similar, but that is an educated guess and not backed by any research or verification.

BTW - OTS new hires accrue 4 hours vacation/personal time each pay period, so 8 hours each month. While at the Academy for approximately 3 calendar months, we already have 3 full work days of vacation time accrued, FYI. I believe the accrual rate might be more rapid for VRA and/or retired military controllers, such as 8 hours each pay period.

When I was signing my TOL we asked the same question. Insurance and vacation accrual start the first day of the academy. However you insurance will not kick in until the beginning of the next pay period which could be a day or up to two weeks from then depending on your start date and when the pay period is compared to it.
