John and Martha Get Jacked Up.

The attitude that I've seen in most police lately seems to be "draw guns first, get the suspect(s) in handcuffs, then ask questions later." Fortunately, the situation was resolved without anyone getting hurt. From the cops' point of view, this would be no different than driving around in a BMW with a license tag run as "stolen"; they wouldn't be handled any differently, regardless of who they were. I can't believe, however, the FAA actually issues N-numbers from previously stolen aircraft. Not only is this extremely embarrassing for the Kings, it was a huge waste of taxpayer resources too. I wonder if the King's cameras were rolling at the time?

While we're on the subject of King, I love just about all the King products, and I even ordered one of their single-subject videos the same day this happened. However, there are a number of "text based" courses (MNPS Airspace, RVSM, high altitude aerodynamics, etc.) that are terrible, IMO. Plain, No video, no animation, and grossly overpriced.

This was too good to pass up as an avatar!

Darren...its one thing to poke them in the eye professionally, but to do it personally is wrong and out of bounds in a public medium.

I'd be willing to bet you and muff3n would be a little more respectful if the internet was not anonymous.

Welcome aboard. You might want to take some time to get to know how this board is different before you make too many assumptions. This has got to be one of the LEAST anonymous forums around, and there is nothing wrong with having some fun and joking around about the Kings. Even they have a sense of humor about it and have taken it in stride.

Wow there is a lot of hate for CA. I love my state, the geography, the history, and the variety. I don't care for the plastic attitudes, COL, and politics that hinder the growth and punish the populace. It is failing and it is sad. But we are one of fifty other states in the Union. I have visited quite a few and never found another that I would readily call home. Born and raised..

I lived in California for most of my life. I always enjoy visiting, but the quality of life has just deteriorated. I made enough to afford it, it wasn't that. However, unless you make enough to really be able to avoid the traffic, etc., it just is not all that great anymore. I put it in the same category as New York City. Great if you are really wealthy.

Also, I have since found that there are other places I like just as much if not more, in terms of scenery, etc., that don't have the insane taxes of Calif.

I used to live in San Diego...I did like the beaches and the things to do, but not a lot of the superficialness. Now the northern mountains of the state...I could spend forever up there!

I've got the opportunity to pull up stakes here and move to Santa Clara/San Jose area pretty much any time I want to. I ran the numbers, though, and I'd need a fairly major raise to maintain my standard of living from Austin to CA. Kind of ironic though, because LOTS of Californians are moving to Austin.

The older I get, though, the fewer people I'm interested in living around...I think I'd like a smaller town...have considered moving out to somewhere in the Texas Hill Country if I could work it out right. Some land, some dogs, a small house and a grass strip.

LOL, every city in CA short of maybe Bakersfield and the ones in the central valley is desirable, look at property values. There is nothing wrong with the CA attitude of work hard and play hard. That's the reason why CA has prospered as a state, at least the people have. But I sense this is moot topic for pilots because we can't afford CA anyways.
Hey...WTF?

There are a lot of California I wouldn't want to live. LA, Ukiah, Inyokern, Redding, Fresno..... The list is bigger of places that I wouldn't live there than would actually!

The places that I like the most in the state are San Luis Obispo, San Dieogo, and weather wise the Arcata/Eureka area ( although there's really not enough city up there to make me totally happy). I like the bay area also, but only as a visitor. I really wouldn't want to live there long term.

:yeahthat:

I loved my NYC and California overnights. But there's no way I'd want to live there unless I was so mega-rich that I could afford the NICE parts of NYC/CA.

Nice places to visit, wouldn't want to live in either of them though... No hate or anything for either place, plenty of people (obviously) dearly love California and New York City. Not everyone would want to live in SW Wisconsin either, and I think it's the best place in the whole world. :)

New from John and Martha King: How to conduct aircraft operations while being Felony Stopped!
In this video we will show you:

When to come to a complete stop, Remeber BLACK SQUARE YOU'RE THERE!
How to properly exit while keeping your hands up.
How to follow the officers directions (this will keep you from getting shot).
How to act appropriately while in custody.
And many other helpful tips to keep you from tossing salad while in jail!

This is a limited time offer, supplies are low and going fast!

I just listened to it, she sounds like she is p.o.'ed and trying to tame it down a little. It also sounds like she may do something about it. From what she says (only one side of the stroy), the SBPD didn't follow proper procedure to verify that it was indeed stolen, as in a simple Google search of the N-number. In the police's defense though, I wouldn't think they are equiped to handle this kind of thing, so they may not know where to look. And I am willing to bet that "a simple Google search" does not fit into proper procedure in determining whether a ehicle is stolen or not.

But come on. Hnadcuffing a little old lady like Martha and throwing her in the back of a squad car! John maybe, but Martha!

I think if anyone needs to have a talking with, it's EPIC (El Paso Intel Ctr.), for not bothering to do thier research before calling the SBPD and letting them know they were inbound.

EPIC FAIL! <----Pun intended!

Most people that don't like CA don't' like it because they can't afford it. It has nothing to do with the hippies, yes they have taken over gov but the regular people of the state are sane and nice. We did elect the governator after all!

Or that I can't bring these with me... :bandit:

BTW It is junk, but King schools isn't nearly as bad as AOPA. A few days ago I got 4 copies of the same issue of AOPA magazine in the mail.....

Shhhh.... SteveC will snap if he hears you. (ref: mind numbing topics) :D jk, jk..

I honestly never in my lifetime thought I'd see a picture of John and Martha being led away in handcuffs. :rotfl:

I do my share of poking fun at them (really, I make fun of everyone though) but seriously, they've made enough money doing something they love to not only make a good living, but afford their own Falcon? Pretty awesome if you ask me.

Not just enough money to live in a nice part (we have pilots that live in PV and Brentwood, etc), but also enough money so you can really avoid the traffic, etc. Need to have a helicopter available, a private jet, etc. I know people in that category and that makes up for a lot of the issues. For me, I just can't justify the tax hit, which is substantial amount. It's just crazy, between income, property, sales and user fees in California now, and you can't write most of them off against Federal.
