JetBlue Window to Reopen

I have recurrent 11-13 next month, can you show me around? Also would help if you can provide the new 'Bus gouge. I'll buy you a bag of chips from the vending machines. Thanks man :D!

Just gonna miss you at the training center. I've got recurrent the end of the month. Haven't heard anything on the E-190 gouge. If it's like last year, follow SOPs and don't do anything stupid, and you should be fine. :)

The commute number for BOS is closer to 80 percent. The two hour criteria is new, as there have been several recent now shows. Internal recs get interviews, along with some other techo-wizardry
that's as secret as the Coca-Cola recipe.

I've got a friend in the interview process.

Even he doesn't fully understand how people get the nod to come interview.

Some of the larger airlines went to this magic "box" of sorts to create metrics on who gets the call. I miss the days when I could walk into HR at my own airline and say, "Here's a great candidate!" then the phone would ring a few hours later about him getting invited to an interview.

I think the business school grads have taken over everywhere.

Agreed. It shouldn't be a mystery to those on the inside.

Do all internal recs get interviews? This is my second application. I've got an internal rec from a pilot and I went to Vets in Blue in March. Fingers crossed.

Hell, I don't know. It seems that if you know a chief pilot or someone really connected you can get an interview.

Just a rec from a line guy isn't enough, most likely. Go to every event that JetBlue is attending. Reach out to every possible person you know there.

I went to an invite only open house (you had to know someone to get the invite until someone posted a copy of the email with the link on APC, which kinda ruined the whole point), had 6 internal recs and it STILL look one of my friends on the inside cornering someone on the hiring committee to get a call. This was back in 2011, and it's gotten even more confusing since then. While I was waiting on a call, guys who just filled out the application on line using the shotgun application approach (apply to anyone who was hiring) were getting class dates. It's frustrating when it's your #1 choice, you know you'd be a good fit, have people pulling for you and still can't get the nod for an interview. Only thing I can say is keep plugging away. It'll eventually happen.

I also went to an invite only event, Vets in Blue (a lot of people had the chance to RSVP, but only 200 were allowed to attend), where I handed multiple copies of resumes to HR reps. I don't have has many internal recs, but I am not interested in any other airline.

I am just going to keep my fingers crossed and see what happens. I am also keeping my eye out for job fairs that JB might be at.

Hiring Update...
 Application window was open for 10 days and there were close to 4000 applicants
 We are likely to select 300 pilots out of this window for interviews, including Bluedarts
 3700 met our minimums and over 2000 are exceptionally competitive
 Average experience is higher than in past application windows
 Competitive is over 5000 hours civilian or over 2000 hrs military fighter or 3500 military
transport/trainer
 More than half of applicants have JetBlue referrals, and 85% have bachelor’s degree. To
be competitive, referrals and a bachelor’s degree are almost a must
 Bluedarts must meet “satisfactory experience” criteria listed in the FOM 10.5, and over
3000 applicants meet that threshold
 2013 – We hired 269 pilots
 2014 - We have already hired close to 300 pilots so far this year, and are slated to hire
approximately 100 more (Aug-Dec). For a total of approximately 400
 2015 – Initial hiring forecasts (which are subject to change) is 250-350 pilots
 Upcoming class dates are 8/27, 9/10, 9/24, 10/15, 10/29, 11/12, 12/3
 We have approximately 100 pilots in the “pool” and all have passed phase 2. They
should all be in class by Dec (though hiring projections often change, so no guarantees)
 Upcoming interview dates are 9/16, 9/30, 10/16, 10/28, 11/6, 11/13
 Candidates interviewing this fall will be for classes in the first half of 2015
 Time from interview to phase 2 completion is approximately 2 months, and we now send
notifications to the candidates when they pass phase 2
 Time from interview to class is 3-6 months, but can be as fast as 30 days if necessary
Post from APC FWIW. Good luck to all that applied.

A little discouraging for me, no bachelors and no internal referrals. I do have 7000hrs with 5 type ratings including the Embraer. PIC on the E175.
I just logged in to the jetBlue website and my application is gone, it used to say received. Anyone else with this?

You know flying the airplane is a small part of what we do. The degree and LOR lets them know what kind of person you are. I can't help with the degree part, but you are posting on a website with a ton of jetBlue pilots. My guess is one or more not only lives near you but also has the same hobbies as you.

It would also be good if EEO would come into play, as there are some of us that checked off some other boxes.

Getting to know some of the pilot group has been fun. One opportunity I had was taking the crew out for dinner, as I had wheels at our destination after being allowed the jumpseat on their 320.

Additionally, I know a bunch of 9K pilots who I have helped over the years, but sadly won't climb down off of their 3000 hour high horse and offer a referral. That and apparently a few who sadly gave the training department such a difficult time, that they nearly shut down the Gateway program, and now have their tails between their legs.

EEO (Equal Employment Opportunity is what I'm assuming you mean) does factor in. Friends with a guy that used to be in on the hiring stuff, and he was saying they have to be VERY careful about certain things. They have to make sure there are a mix of people that have blue darts, people with internal recs on file and people that no absolutely no one here specifically because of EEO issues that could come up.

Networking, I've discovered, is CRUCIAL to making the jump from the regionals to pretty much anywhere, especially the major level. Either than or you've got to have a loaded resume or have enough luck to beat the house in Vegas.

I wouldn't say the referrals are a "must," but with 85% of applicants have a degree, I WOULD say it's better to be in the 85% than the 15% that don't. It's one more box ticked off. Plus, if you've got the degree, it opens up the door to other airlines that actually REQUIRE it to apply. You don't have to get it in aviation. You don't even have to have a good "fall back" degree. Odds are there's something that interests you that someone offers a Bachelor's Degree in. Major in it, and get it done. If it's something you don't have to MAKE yourself do the work on, you're more likely to finish it up. You can't swing a stick without hitting some kind of online degree program these days.....

With attrition, my bet is closer to the 350 number for 2015. I was hired in November of last year, and I'm already looking at close to 500 guys behind me in seniority. My equipment lock on the 190 is already up (as in any bids that come out will be effective after my lock date expires), and I can hold a line in ANY base except MCO. I'd even hold a decent line in FLL on the 320, and I could probably hold a nice, commutable line on the 320 up in JFK or BOS. But I'm spoiled now with this living in base stuff.

The upgrade time is really shortened now, like 1899 can hold E-190 BOS. I know of a couple of 9K guys that went over around then, through the Gateway program. I just can't get an invite, but I'll keep trying. I've hit every fair except OBAP, and keep in touch with the hiring people on a regular basis.

Do you find the job fairs helpful? Im thinking of attending the ERAU fair next month but doubt I have competitive times so not sure if it is worth it. I guess what Im asking is, if I go to the fair now will it help my chances in 1-2 years when I have more competitive times.

The E190 upgrade is over 2000 in this latest bid. Around 2100 I believe.
