JetBlue Window to Reopen

From what I hear, you talk to one of the Chiefs and they MIGHT be able to arrange it.

I'd say anyone under 3500 knows someone that knows someone or is in a Gateway program. I got in with around 4000, and I was one of the lower time guys in my class. Only a couple of guys in my class DIDN'T have TPIC time.

Thanks for the info! I'm just about ready to break 3,000 TT with somewhere around 2,400 in the 170, no TPIC. I will keep trying for my dream job. :)

I think I had like 2400 TT, and some TPIC. I only got in because I knew some people. Our classes were early enough that EVERYBODY in them knew somebody high up the food chain.

I can pretty safely say I didn't know anyone in the food chain. Didn't have anyone on the inside pulling for me, just got the call and I did have 3 references who worked there.

Just happen to have my logbook here... I had 7500TT and 4k TPIC when I got to class. Which is why it's annoying when I hear we're only hiring low time guys. Those saying it are usually uninformed.

I was told, the easiest way for a pilot to get a blue dart is to perform volunteer work or community service and tell the company about it.

Don't know about the volunteer work getting you a dart. It definitely won't hurt at the interview, but I don't know if it would get you a dart.

@Baronman Most of the times I'm hearing right now are in the 4K+ for totals. The only low time guys I've heard of lately are from the Cape Air gateway. The FOs I've heard getting hired have been slogging it out in the regionals for like 6-7 years, so they're up there in time right now. Most of the guys saying "we only hire low time guys with no TPIC because management doesn't want them to leave" are, as you said, uniformed. I'm gonna add the words "blow hards that like to hear themselves talk," too.

Let me clarify what I posted, I meant a current JetBlue pilot can receive a blue dart if he informs the company about volunteer work he's performing.

Ah, that makes sense. First I've heard of that, too. They keep moving the target on how to get Blue Darts. Honestly, all the people that have asked for my help, I write them LORs and send their name over to the CP. So far, all but one have gotten interviews that way, and (so far) all have been offered jobs. One guy kinda hacked me off because I went through all that, then he bailed for AMR in less than 6 months.....

Yeah, if you use a reference to get an interview, that reference went out on a limb. Don't make them regret it!

That definitely happens. I can't figure out what is required to get an interview. I do have a friend who is involved with recruiting, but even he is somewhat unsure of how things work down deep in the system. :)

I signed up. If I can't score an interview following Vets in Blue, then I don't know what to think.

I hear you man. Unfortunately I haven't been in the cockpit as much as a lot of my peers have over the past seven years (just now crossing 3,000TT), so...I may not be exactly what they're looking for - but I can tell you I am gonna make my case as best I can in the available time that I would contribute positively to the organization, and not just from inside the cockpit.

So my reference should send his/her letter to the system Chief Pilot? Then they can login to the hiring site, pull my resume? What's this, typed in one of our aircraft, Naval Aviator, Gulf War Veteran? Team player, and a leader? African American? He's too old. I'll end up back in the stack.

Just a word of advice, the last Vets in Blue had a LOT of guys make it into Phase II after their interviews only to be knocked out at the last minute. Seemed like the trend was "I had all the qualifications, did well in the interview, but I hadn't touched an airplane in about 6 months." So, it seems they may be placing a lot of emphasis on recency of experience. So, if you haven't flown in a while, do so if you can.
