JetBlue Pilots Association

Beejeebezzs this one got out of hand.

A few points.

First and foremost, it is awesome that Jetblue is going to try to unionize. Let us hope that they vote in a union recognized by the NMB. At this point this is the most important thing.

Secondly, let us face it MANY airline pilots are fed up with the way the industry has gone the past few years. I was on an American Airlines Transcon Friday and those guys are royally pissed at the likes of Virgin America, Skybus, and the Jetblue rates/workrules/foreign ownership. A lot is going on out there and we should all be aware of it.

Thirdly, John and Matt, you know that I love you, but Velocipede is more qualified and has more credentials than all three of us combined. When we were in diapers he was flying in the Navy. His delivery might be not agreeable, but I am sure that in person, all of us would have a great time drinking adult beverages. Also PCL_128 helped us immensely during the Colgan ALPA drive, sat down, and explained very clearly why ALPA was needed to our guys. He was there from the beginning and was there to the end.

Fourthly, denying jumpseats is not the way to turn people onto a union. You win the battle, but lose the war.

Oh, by the way, time for another picture of hot girls....

As a completely disinterested observer commenting solely on delivery, not content, I must say that Chicaga has, by far, the best posts in this thread.

Maybe I shouldn't say "by far" since the Segster is giving him a run...and I don't mean that because of the pics.

Older & wiser heads please take note.

I hate to tell ya, but common sense isn't part of the ALPA jumpseat policy. So again, you follow the rules WHEN YOU FIND THEM CONVENIENT.

Nothing in the policy prevents a Captain from denying a non-union pilot a jumpseat. It simply states that denial as a means of "intimidation" is discouraged. And as I said, intimidation has nothing to do with my motives.

As far as I know you were only there 5 or so years so it really couldn't have been that much.

I have no need to list my entire ALPA resume here, but you can always PM me if you'd like to know. Suffice it to say that it's probably a lot more than you imagine.

Err Segs? Isn't that a picture from the Virgin America/Victory Secret flight? You anti union person you!

:D

don't ever try to spite me RJ Boy ;)

All this fuss over a post to inform my JetBlue brethren about JBPA. How exciting.

Just stirin' the pot.

"So, perhaps some of you young pups should just zip it and listen up when people who obviously have much more flying and Union experience talk. Now, if you want to expound on CFIing or flying Cessna 712s, I'll be glad to cede you the floor."

Who does he think he is, anyways? The Chuck Norris of Jetcareers?

That's the dumbest crap I've ever read on here....

To all who have read this thread, does the name Jim Sovich ring a bell?

It should to at least two...

Chuck Norris doesn't join a union. The union joins Chuck Norris.

Does he have a brother/cousin (I dunno which) named Chris? We had a guy here with that name (who went to Mainline last month I think) who talked about his brother (again, I think) Jim.

Sovich was the president of the APA in the mid 90's. He issued an official APA statement telling APA pilots to deny jumpseats to the Eagle (ALPA) pilots. (This "letter" is not urban legend, I read the letter myself.) UAL ALPA got wind of this and the UA MEC Pres responded with a letter stating that if APA denied jumpseats to the Eagle ALPA pilots then UA ALPA pilots would deny jumpseats to APA pilots. That "jumpseat war" didn't last long, and didn't accomplish anything.

you just can't do it yourself as well as ALPA can do it. Until then, the in-house setup will make do.

LOL gimme a break.

Compare the contracts of ALPA carriers vs in-house unions. UPS, AA (never lost their pension???), SWAPA...There's a reason United is getting ready to dump ALPA.

ALPA's problem is that their focus is so huge that they've lost their effectiveness.

For the record, I am a card carrying ALPA member, and I support them, but I'm not stupid either. You can't go and say things like the above and be taken seriously. Research first.
