How is the Rock and Roll? I have never used one or even seen one in person. Seems like a good concept.

I just got a Cycleops aluminum roller. I've used it about 4 times. It takes a little bit of getting used to but I like it better than a stationary trainer.

I love the rock and roll, its still a trainer but everything they say in there promotional video is true. It is easier on your frame too because it allows some give when you really start to crank it, and it does give you a decent core workout. I also like that the rock and roll has an additional 10lb fly weight you can add for endurance or TT training. I have two buddies/team mates That I ride with quite often, they both have cyclops trainers and after using mine want one as well. The only thing that could be an issue for someone is the size. For stability it has a fairly large footprint, taking about twice the space an ordinary trainer would. It also weighs well over 50lbs. Unfortunately even as spring rolls closer it looks like I will be spending a lot more time on it too.

Yesterday I was out on a team ride, second one of the season. About half way through the ride I was descending down the backside of signal mountain, just north of Chattanooga, and crashed. I was doing 43 MPH, went wide to take a sharp turn and didn't see the rumble strip on the side of the road starting again. Needless to say I hit them and didn't have a chance. Before I even had time to get my hands off the bars to tuck for the impact I was on my back. When I impacted the ground I hit and stopped, very little road rash but ended up with a broken left collarbone. My shoulder took about 95% of the impact, my head took the rest, cracked my helmet and broke a few chunks off of it. No head ache and no concussion but I'll be out of work for at least 6 weeks, longer if I need surgery (I'll find that out after I make an appt with an orthopedic surgeon this week).

This is my first broken bone and the break itself doesn't hurt nearly as bad as I thought it would. That being said by last night and even worse this morning my shoulder looks like a babies head is pushing through from all the swelling and that hurts like a bitch.

Be safe out there guys. I'll update you when I can get in to see the doc.

Ouch! Sorry to hear that and I hope you have a quick recovery. I can't even imagine going down at that speed. Not that it is as important as you, but did your bike survive the crash?

That was the first question I had. Its back at the shop (just had it overhauled last week) for a crash inspection. The chain came off, handle bars got torqued down and the hoods on the shifters got scraped up pretty good but that's about it from an initial inspection, mechanic said the same thing but is going to do the crash inspection this week. Fingers crossed. I have crashed this bike twice now, this time and once when I hit a deer about a week after I bought it. Both times my body took most of the impact and I was just along for the ride.

Going under the knife for my collar bone on Wednesday morning. Orthopedic surgeon says its in far to many pieces and far to compressed to heal on its own.

Hate to hear that. Shoulders can be difficult to rehab. Don't push it too hard. Back when I was in High School, my dad crashed and endo-ed in our own driveway (at the end of a metric century). He didn't break any bones and it still took 3 surgeries to get it right because he was trying to do too much too soon on the rehab.

Best of luck.

Word today... Bike is in good shape, I assume my clavicle is now too but it hurts like hell and I probably wont see any pictures for another week. Sleeping at the hospital tonight, hop to go home in the morning.

Glad to hear that on both the bike and the shoulder. Once again, here is to a speedy and complete recovery.

I've only ever managed to somehow break one bone, my sternum. My bro has done both collar bones and it didn't take too long each time it seemed. Hopefully you can at least get on the trainer sooner than later to start again.

Well tomorrow morning will mark 72 hours since my surgery. I think (at least hope) that today was the most painful day of recovery... IT SUCKED, but there were some high points. I got to take a shower for the first time since Tuesday evening, and a buddy went and picked up my bike from crash inspection, also had my new toy, a Garmin Edge 810. Still have to pay for it but now I can figure out how to work this puppy while I recover.

bike21 I hope to be back on the trainer by this time next week. I have my first follow up appt with the surgeon on the 4th. Obviously nothing is official yet but he said if I am pain free by then getting on the trainer shouldn't be an issue.

Good luck with getting on the trainer ASAP.

I just took the plunge on an indoor bike. I have a good trainer (Kurt Kinetic Road Machine), but I never feel like I can work hard on it because of how it treats my frame. I want to be able to get out of the saddle and hammer as hard inside as I do out.

After doing my research I opted on a Schwinn AC Performance. I ordered from StudioCycles in California, and it sounds like they do a good job building the bike and tuning it before shipping, plus they give quite a few upgrades. I am looking forward to giving the Sufferfest videos a full effort once this arrives.
