JC Cyclists.

I haven't been riding nearly as much as I'd like, but I've been on a few rides in the past few weeks. I was able to do 24 Hours of Booty http://www.24hoursofbooty.org/site/PageServer this weekend with my wife and friends. This was my 3rd year riding, last year I rode 204 miles. This year I just decided to have fun, I think I rode about 65 miles on Friday night. I visited with friends and people who came to cheer us on more than I rode. On Saturday I rode 36 miles with my wife who isn't a cyclist, it was neat being able to ride with her.

We're going to start a bigger team for next year, you can ride 3 miles or 300. I will be sure to post on here if anyone wants to join us for 2012. This year was extra special because my friend lost his wife to cancer last month and he was able to ride with us.

Dude, I would love to ride that with you next year. Just keep me in mind, if the schedule allows I would be more than happy to make the drive over there from Nashville. How much does the ride cost?

50 bucks to sign up and there is a minimum fundraising goal of $240 or so, but it's easy to raise money. We might have kits made up this year, I'm not sure what the cost will be on those. I'm going to do bibs and a race cut jersey (full zip) but think we would at least like people to wear jerseys. Figure $50 for the ride plus $50-75 for the jersey. We'll make sure you have a place to stay.

Finally.

Nice.... you should go post that over on the BikeForums classic/vintage forum too. Original paint & decals? I have a Raleigh SuperCourse I'm restoring bit by bit - I have rims and hubs to build it up as fixed/free to use as an errand bike/cruiser, but haven't gotten around to spokes yet.
I've been predominantly riding mtb with my son until the past few weeks; I just feel less stress worrying about him on the trails than on roads - deer are smarter and less aggressive than humans in cars. There's a local kids group ride/skills/beginning race group in town that he rode with part of the summer. Now that he's started football, I've been riding on the street again with my ancient Bianchi cross bike, since our local trails turn into a mud bog every few days this year.

bought a crappy 100$ mountain bike from walmart last year, been riding it almost every day this summer. Best return on investment ever.

The reason i say it is crappy is because it is incredibly unbalanced, riding no hands it wants to take off to the left lol.

Sweet man, Sounds awesome. Do they provide food and SAG support at the ride? I think I am down.Full zip race cut jerseys would be awesome

That would be hella cheap for a jersey sadly. I would start with champion systems if you want to have some jerseys made up. The stuff is pretty pricey but the cheapest ok quality custom cycling clothing. Let me know if you find a better deal.

I've got a few connections and we're hopefully going to get kits at less than cost, I have a friend who can get us Giordana or Garneau clothing at cost and my club should hopefully be able to get us Sugoi at less than cost. I paid cost for my Sugoi bibs and jersey and think it was around $175.

Well if you get a full zip I am in for one kit.

Just keep in mind these aren't the JC jerseys, they will be for 24 Hours of Booty and will probably have 3-4 sponsors on them as well.

I think I'm in the market for a new bike, my SuperSix has another crack. I'm either thinking get the SuperSix repaired and keep it as my rain/race/bad weather bike and get a 2011 SuperSix (not Hi Mod) or get a 2011 CAAD10 and ride that year round. I sooooo want the SuperSix Evo but it will cost $1300 more and I will probably have to wait 5 months for it to come in.

Here's the SuperSix they have in my size, it's a 4 so has Rival with a Force crank.

Yep. I rode it about 15 miles the other day. It's a hoot to ride and a few girls told me it was cute. Guess I done good.

Your Cdale is having cracks so you want another Cdale?

I was kinda thinking the same thing... WHy would you want another bike if that one is cracking... Does the warranty not cover it? For me if anything happens to my Madone outside of a crash I get a new bike.

I get the Cannondales at cost and I've really liked every one I've had so far so another reason for getting another. My SuperSix has been ridden hard and each crack is the result of crashing.

What about a moots ti cross bike, then I'd be set for racing. Now if I were only fast enough to keep up with my friends on a cross bike. Hmm, now you've got me thinking about some cross racing this year.

I want to know how you land bikes at cost? you own a bike shop?

I'm on a team (more like a club) and we get our bikes at cost + tax. We can't abuse it and buy bikes and turn around to sell them at a profit, but as long as we ride the bike for a season they're good with it. The also have deals at the beginning of the season on wheels, clothing, helmets, tires, shoes, pedals, all that good stuff. We commit to race in at least 5 races, ride in 2-3 charity rides, and volunteer at 1-2 sponsored rides a year and we're also asked to wear the team kit when riding. We're kind of like rolling billboards and ambassadors for the shop.

There are a few startup teams that have better deals and less drama (long story) that I'm looking at next year. They're doing a one time order at the beginning of the year for bikes at 20% off dealer cost, but you have to ride a team bike. I can ride whatever I want right now.

The best way to find deals like this is to find somewhere that does shop rides. You also want to make sure they have a club and/or team. Start going to the shop rides and hanging around the shop and then inquire about becoming a member of the club or team. I started going to a shop with a group ride not because I wanted deals, but because the shop is close. I rode with them enough and they asked me to join the team and get on one of their bikes. There are some crazy fast guys on the team, but they're the first people to ask if you need help when you're on the side of the road.

Cool man! My local shop has a team too, they all ride Madones, I have started doing some group rides with them, hopefully more next month. My schedule usually doesn't allow it...
