Hiring tracking (opposite of furlough tracking)

Of the majors/legacies, who do you think will hire next?

In the interest of narrowing the list let's only consider those airlines with maximum Captain pay in excess of $150,000 per year. According to the Pro Pilot salary survey that would include:

  • Alaska
  • American
  • Continental
  • FedEx
  • Southwest
  • United
  • UPS
Does not include overrides, overtime, special credits, per diem, etc.

  1. Notable exceptions due to max pay below $150,000: AirTran, JetBlue, US Airways
  2. Delta excluded due to current hiring status

My guess would be Southwest or Hawaiian.

I jumpseated home on FedEx last week and the rumor going around there is hiring in the Spring. They just put a big bid out.

depending on how fast the SLI and JCBA goes for CAL/UAL, and/or whatever agreements the MECs might be able to work out to give furloughed UAL guys all the slots, CAL could hire by the end of the year. There are 2 777 and 8 or so 737s in Seattle waiting for seats from Koito, just waiting to be delivered. Those airplanes alone will more than drain all the furloughed guys. Now granted if hired at CAL you might be stapled behind 1000+ furloughed United guys, and that could get real ugggly.

I would say Fedex.

:yeahthat:

From what I hear from across the taxiways, if they had kept on taking deliveries of 777s the way they were, they were gonna have to hire THIS year. They hit a snag with converting the pax 777s to freighters, so they've got a lull. I'd be very surprised if they're not hiring this time next year, though.

Also going with FedEx.

On a slightly other note...

A substantial number of the 3rd round of recalls at Atlantic Southeast are resigning from the company. This round included many of the first and second rounds who bypassed.

I would not be surprised if ASA runs a small window (<20-30) of hiring early this fall (Sept/Oct) to cover the still ridiculous lack of staffing. Although, if they really want to fix the problem they need to get rid of our Director of Crew Support and hire about 50-75.

How would 10 airplanes drain 1500+ furloughees?

Even then, I doubt all 1500 would come back in one shot. Some have landed other positions, some are probably done after their 3rd furlough in their career. One of their furloughs is our ACP in DTW. I'd have to ask him, but if I had that job....I'd probably bypass until I couldn't bypass anymore. QoL of an ACP at a regional is better than a reserve FO at a major. Pay is likely better, too.

How does this group calculate max pay? It would be an incredibly lazy AirTran or JetBlue senior captain to not make at least $150k.

I meant the 132 that are still on furlough, after the 15 that were just recalled. If the lists stay separate for a bit of time, there is certainly a good possibility of CAL needing pilots before the JCBA/SLI is done.

Seems a strange way to calculate pay. It's a rare airline pilot that credits only guarantee. Our average pilot credits over 1100 hours per year.

Maybe at Airtran (another reason I would like to work there) but at Eagle most of the RSV pilots and most of the ATR pilots don't credit over guarantee. Me on then other hand get mad if I don't credit 120 hours a month. I aim for 1300 hours of pay credit a year.
