Phoenix Police arrested a 49-year-old man Wednesday after they say he jumped the north fence at Sky Harbor and ran onto the tarmac and then taxi-way.

Police say Robert Bump hopped a fence and ran to the area B-6 near terminal 3 of Sky Harbor Airport's north side.

A Southwest Airlines plane had just landed and was told about the situation after airport security saw the man.

The pilot waited on the taxi-way and turned off the plane's engines.

Police say Bump hit the engine of the aircraft with his hands and was walking toward the terminal when he was quickly arrested by police.

Sky Harbor said their operations were not impacted by the man.

According to police, Bump showed signs of possibly being impaired by drugs or alcohol and was later booked into jail on charges of entering a restricted area.
