Headsets part duex

You know, I'll admit, that most of the time it is pretty easy being an RJ driver. I mean, sure we have some of the same problems that freight dogs have. Engines that stop working, gears that won't come up. Etc. And sure, you guys have a lot of issues that we don't have. Single pilot. Crap weather (actually, we have that one too... we can just climb over it some times), no auto pilot etc... But when was the last time you had to return to the gate because your box in 12C was drunk and trying to beat the #### out of the box in 12D? Or when was the last time you were forced to return to the gate because the load on pallet 3 was on the TSA no fly list and somehow made it through check in and security. Or, less far fetched then that, have you ever had a box that was afraid to fly and screamed bloody murder as you taxied out to the runway? Personally, I'd rather deal with these problems then dodging thunderstorms at 10K with no radar at night. But hey, to each their own.

That's true, you've gotta deal with all that stuff; but the FA is the one that takes the brunt of it eh? You guys certinally are the ones that take action to make sure it stops and to end the flight, but I feel bad for the FA's back there.

What we do have to do with is asshats that don't mark their HAZMAT correctly and end up killing pilots. I heard that the Ameristar lear that went down in Mexico was on fire before it hit the ground, and I'd be willing to bet it was from something they were carrying.

CFIT accidents are commonplace also. Guys get tired, make a mistake in the mountains and BAM! You're gone before you know what happened. We most likely lost a 99 to that up in Montana a year or so ago. I wish we'd get our GPS' in faster as it wouldn't be nearly as much of an issue, but as of today we're still flying around slant alpha.

Bizjets rule. Everything else is just fighting over second place.

Oh, and I like eggs.

For those who have never flown in a crew environment, please don't assume that everything is always so much "easier" because there is a second pilot.

Especially in abnormal situations, there is soooo much potential for miscommunication, confusion about delegation of tasks, extra time and effort involved with briefing the other guy (and getting consensus or feedback about the plan of action), verification and cross-checking of various systems, etc. etc.

And don't forget, with two-pilot cockpits 'generally' come with more complex systems and procedures, so the extra pilot is much more than just a luxury.

Single-pilot IMC flying definitely has its challenges, but it also has a sense of freedom and ease when it comes to making decisions and acting on them, and flying in less complex aircraft.

As a final note, maybe folks shouldn't bash other types of flying until they have experienced it firsthand. There are hundreds of types of flying that I HAVEN'T done, and I won't attempt to pass judgment or disperage any of them (including "RJ Drivers") unless I've been in their shoes.

My God . . . you're serious!

DC8 didn't have boom mic(s) and that thing was heavy on the controls and even harder for the FO to manipulate the autopilot in both vertical and lateral modes, so hand flying while trying to use the hand mic was a bit of a challenge sometimes.

You guys are expanding like crazy and upgrades are what, <2 years in the jet? Here I am worrying about my company's FUTURE. We've lost almost 25% of our fleet from the high point two years ago ...

You sound like me chatting to my friend at United back in 2000! :)

Say what?

So has anyone thought why the Govt. doesn't give a crap that pinnacle hires rj toddlers at 223 hours and 17 multi, yet won't let rj wonder-boy mix it up with a cloud by themself in a baron until they have 1200 hours? Because that same riddle-kid would be most likely be dead within two weeks.

Yeah, but they have a babysitter sitting to their left.

Hmmmmm.....The Gov't only seems to care if your doing it for hire. But a guy could get his PVT/ME/IFR and take his family up in a Barron with waaaaaaaay less then 1200 hours, more like 150-200 hours. Is it smart? No. Would insurance cover him? Yes, if he paid the higher premium.

So lets not get caught up in this whole "I am better then you because I fly freight" stuff. I hate to tell you there are lots of people out there doing it with less time and not killing themselves.

I am sure when you were sluggin it out as a CFI, and a Regional came along and offered you a job. You probably would have jumped on it too.

We all had to start at hour one. We can't blame these kids for having mins that are lower now. We can only help them catch up to the airplane and keep them from killing themselves.

"I am better then you because I fly freight". .

Ha! I have come across a few of those in my time. I like freight. It allows me to do what I want when I want just as long as I make my drops.
Its the jet jockeys that look down on me-with their poop rimmed mouths from all the butt kissing they do (I know, its a neccesary evil). They're just jealous because I got the most comfortable recliner and the girls behind the counter order my lunch!:bandit:

Um.. nope.

I slugged it out as a CFI for three years without even considering applying to a ****.

So all the guys at regionals are working in "##### Holes"? Come on. It's this attitude that I am talking about. This is what divides aviation. We are all on the same team (minus the scabs). We are all trying to make a living at this. We don't make the rules, and we have to go where we can get a job. Is the pay and work rules *****? You bet. But unfortunately we can't do any thing about that right now. Hopefully in the next few years we will see a return to decent pay at all levels, Regional, Corporate, and Airline.

Since you slugged it out as a CFI for crappy pay, these guys aren't allowed to slug it out at a regional for crappy pay? Some how you went a more righteous route because you let a flight school owner screw with you instead of airline management?

Why not? It's fun! And true! :D:D:D:cwm27:;)

Ok you guys are way better. I thikn I'll just be a panzy Lear guy and go over the top at 470-490, have fun sluggin it out with mother nature.:) :) :D :D

Work smater, not harder.:bandit:
