What about those of us that slugged it out at Flight Schools with great pay?

What about those of us that slugged it out at Flight Schools with great pay? Now, I won't get into the "we're better" debate. If there's an answer to that, it's an obvious one. I will say, however, that it's funny to hear an Airline Pilot - an RJ guy - complain about how difficult it is to use a hand mike because the other pilot - THE OTHER PILOT - is busy.I won't dog many people, because I'm sure I'll fly at a regional someday - maybe very soon. However, you won't hear me whining. You can bet the farm on that.

So all the guys at regionals are working in "##### Holes"? Come on. It's this attitude that I am talking about. This is what divides aviation. We are all on the same team (minus the scabs). We are all trying to make a living at this. We don't make the rules, and we have to go where we can get a job. Is the pay and work rules *****? You bet. But unfortunately we can't do any thing about that right now. Hopefully in the next few years we will see a return to decent pay at all levels, Regional, Corporate, and Airline.
Since you slugged it out as a CFI for crappy pay, these guys aren't allowed to slug it out at a regional for crappy pay? Some how you went a more righteous route because you let a flight school owner screw with you instead of airline management?
And one last thing I would say that being a regional FO takes about 1/10th of the skill required to fly freight....so just get over it!
See, this is what I'm talking about. Which regional did you fly for? Oh wait, you wouldn't work for one. How do you know what it's like? I could just as easily say flying a 210 isn't near as hard as flying a CRJ, but I wouldn't have a damn clue since I haven't done it.....

Alright this is my last post in this thread about this topic.....
First off I didn't say that ALL regionals are crapholes. I think that Xjet/Skyw/RAH are a couple of the decent ones. What I was getting at is that even though I could have driven to a Mesa interview 5 minutes away from my house just for the interview experience, I wouldn't lower myself to that. I also disagree with you on not being able to improve working conditions. If everybody realized that you can make more, be home more, and be treated better by staying a CFI and waiting 12 months to get on with some place that treats you better than dirt then we wouldn't have a place like go-jets. And unless you live at your base, why would anybody commute to some of these other regionals. I'd rather some riddle-kid with 200 hours gets hired straight on with Southwest than Pinnacle. Because who could blame him? The money is good and they treat you well. But why some people crawl over each other to be junior manned and commute to DTW is beyond me....but listening to your logic, I must be the crazy one.
Also who said that I made crappy pay at a flight school? I freelanced mostly and did just fine (compared to entry level aviation jobs). And one last thing I would say that being a regional FO takes about 1/10th of the skill required to fly freight....so just get over it!
And if anyone is scarred of handmics get the BoseX!!
Im out!
I recommend the Bose...![]()

Jeez, I knew it was about time for the freight vs regional p*ssing match. If I wanted this crap, I could go to FI. It's one of the reasons I stop going there.
Yeah, I fly RJs. Why? They called and I needed out of where I was so I could get back to my family. If that makes me less of a pilot, fine. I really don't care what anyone else thinks. If someone needs to say they fly boxes to feel like a real pilot, cool. I've never flown freight, so I can't say what the lifestyle's like. There's a lot of guys on here that haven't flown regionals, but they SURE like to bag on us. A lot of the times what they think is the truth really isn't. Same goes in the reverse.
Both sides have their issues, but from these on-line free-for-alls, it always looks like the freight guys have chips on their shoulders. No matter what us regional guys say, we're all whiny button pushers. I have zero control over who my company hires, yet somehow I'm a lesser pilot b/c they hire low time guys? That makes NO sense. You could probably argue that a lot of our CAs fly single pilot IFR anyway with some of those guys.
You're absolutely right, it's not even remotely close to the type of flying that you're talking about. Hearing some of you panzy azz regional pilots bitch about workload is like listening to Bill Gates complain about gas prices. :cwm27:
Let me guess... you'd squawk 7600 and land on light gun signals?![]()
It's just as bad as listening to how hard RJ pilots have it with their FD's, AP's, APU's and all those other acronyms.
Say what?
So has anyone thought why the Govt. doesn't give a crap that pinnacle hires rj toddlers at 223 hours and 17 multi, yet won't let rj wonder-boy mix it up with a cloud by themself in a baron until they have 1200 hours? Because that same riddle-kid would be most likely be dead within two weeks.
Um.. nope.
I slugged it out as a CFI for three years without even considering applying to a *****.

Amflight Chieftain captain and then Skywest CRJ FO I believe, actually.
Wow...Management (airline, freight, corporate, charter....) loves it when pilots put each other down. Makes it ten times easier for them to do the same.

Hey guys I just want to make sure you realize that Hootie worked for Amflight for over a year as a Chieftain driver, but now flies an RJ for Skywest eh?
