Got Microsoft Simulator 04 today

MS flight sim is good for a couple things.

1) doin stuff you can't do in a real plane cause it would kill you

2) practicing approaches.

Plus it's useful to learn how to use the Garmin GPS.
Definately get the CHPro yoke and pedals.

You have to love the enhanced ATC since FS2K, especially the fact that you can now get pop-up IFR clearances.

I'll second the recommendation for AVSIM. You may also want to check out www.flightsim.com and www.flightsimmer.com.

I have FS9 but I'm not really in the mood for it seeing as I just got back from a real flight a few days ago. Every time I fly in reality I can't get on the sim for a while because it just looks so...computerized compared to the real deal

I definently suggest that all of you get the Bill Grabowski Embraer 140/145 panel. The most realistic panel I have ever flown on FS and the most complicated. For instance, you have to turn off APU before you can taxi. Not to mention but it is free and more complex than most payware panels.

Makes since, probably not because he does it all the time but most likely because he gets to do it in real life!

Or instead of guessing, lets have MikeD tell us...

Anyone wanna tell me how much memory is typically used to download all these planes and panels from the sites that you all have mentioned/suggested:

B-727
B-737-300-900
B-757-200,300
B-767300,400
B-777 200,300
B-747-400
MD-11
MD-88/90
CRJ's
ERJ's
E-170,190's
A320/21

Is it alot of memory used I have a 3 ghz HD

Having more memory doesn't hurt, but It mostly relies on processor speed, and your video card. I recommend a 128mb card at least.

You must mean 3 GB, eh?

If that is indeed that case, I think flight sim is ~2 GB. Correct me if I'm wrong on that, but FS must be the only thing installed on your machine! Theres not much more room.

But you also could be talking about download time. If thats the case you're talking bandwidth. But I cant imagine them planes are very big that if you're on dial up that it'd hurt. Start to DL one, if it takes too long just cancel it. No harm done.

Yea hehehehe guess you all figured out that I know don't know crap about computer...save for how to find porn online.
Anyways the bf surprised me the other day and bought MSFS04 for me.
His current computer is kinda slow & crappy it has a 3 GB harddrive.
But he just ordered a new Dell with a 3.0 ghz pentium 4 and a 80 gb harddrive.
As for whatever bandwidth is you got me. But we have COX highspeed cable modem.

I'd second that, That's a great panel. The only thing that I don't like about it is that it's so realistic that it doesn't have an Autothrottle button (yeah, I'm kind of lazy so I like to let the computer take care of throttle settings for me.) I'd also look at the Eric Marciano A320 panel. It's the best freeware Airbus panel that I've found.

A panel is just like the panel in a real airplane. It has all of your gauges. The last time I checked, Flightsim and all the crap I have downloaded for it, takes up about 5.5GB. For what you want to download, I would count on needing at least 1 to 2 GB in addition to the space flight sim already takes up. I agree that flight sim just isn't as fun once you fly in real life, but it is fun to mess around with every once in awhile.

Out of curiousity, what is the default airport for Flight Simulator 2004? I mean since Meigs is gone..

What? It shouldn't take that much memory. I have an OLD computer that has 1GB and a 16mb video card, and FS runs just fine. I have to run everything on very low resolution, but it still works.

For those lucky enough to fly in real life, I'm sure it's not. FS is all I will be flying except for the occasional trip in a 172.
