Furlough Estimates

I'll say that guys who have been at SJI for a few years now are all in the crosshairs. Only guy I know who didn't get UNA has been on property since 2015 or so. And even he is likely headed back to commuting for FO reserve on the wrong coast now (though that could certainly be considered a good deal in this current situation).

AA is scheduled to operate 3,000 flights in July. 3,400/day in 2019 (I understand that a cancellation package could happen anytime).

Leaves have been drastically cut as well as early outs. Leaves (in total months awarded have been cut as follows)
April 7,801 months
May 7,673 months
June 4,268 months
July 1,747 months

Early outs have gone from the 500-600 range to just 5 this month.

Clearly airlines are going on different directions. It will be interesting to see if some are posturing for concessions.

I'm trying to be nice to all of my First Officers... they could be my captain at my next airline! This is a weird business sometimes.

I remember a few years after 9/11 when I got my captain upgrade at Pinnacle. My second trip off of OE, I’m talking with my FO who is pretty new at Pinnacle while we’re sitting at the gate and the pax are boarding. He’s late 40s or so, so I’m thinking maybe late in life career changer or something. But no, turns out he’s a furloughed Northwest pilot. A matter of months ago he was a DC-9 copilot making six figures, now he’s sitting right seat for me, a 23 year old noob regional captain who had to wait to hit 23 to be able to upgrade, and he’s making $20/hr.

It‘s a rough industry and things are rarely if ever fair.

I think AA is sort of taking a, “Field of Dreams” approach to the whole recovery. “If we build it, they will come”. A lot of my family who travel religiously (like it was a hobby or something) specifically aren’t booking on UA and DA because they can’t make the flights work. So they’re booking AA and SWA.

Might be something to that. I think the big three are pretty interchangeable, but in terms of FF miles AA is usually my third choice. But lately that’s all I’ve been flying because everything else involves a 5 hour sit somewhere.

Following the results on Sunday of a so-called "surplus" bid in which employees were asked to petition available positions at one of Delta's seven U.S. pilot bases, the airline will be shifting around 7,000 pilots to different locations or aircraft types, while 2,327 have not been assigned to any category, Delta's Master Executive Council (MEC) of the Air Line Pilots Association (ALPA) said in a statement.
