Furlough Estimates

Apparently AA class received an email saying they misspoke about training beginning in Summer tonight. I guess they saw the forums and realized they made a mistake on their intentions. Not sure I understand.
Sounds like a later start date than mid summer.

The second that I think that’s become the norm here, I’m going to make a nice video, thank everyone and *poof*, gone.

Zap! Full schedule.~ooo

From the earnings call:

-And so I think as a rule of thumb, you all should assume that we will schedule more than we'll fly.

-it's sort of a two-pronged effort. Tom's team will publish a reduced schedule, which, believe it or not, takes quite a bit of technological effort to accomplish. And then Mike's team, on an operating basis, days ahead of a scheduled flight, will go in and cancel aggressively.

- It's just -- honestly, it's a lot easier to take capacity out than it is to put capacity back in.

-We have product out of the shelf, if you will. And if the product isn't selling, we'll take it out. That's what the operation is like, we'll take it and then you'll see we'll pull the capacity out. It's just very hard to put it back in. So I'd rather have it on hand and pull it out as necessary.

From the business side, I get that. However, if I’m reading this right, I think the plan could cost the airline some customers.

What about the 20-40 (whatever the number) pax who are scheduled on a flight that is canceled? How many times would somebody keep buying tickets when they plan for a 1-stop flight and get a 4-legger that gets in 8 hours later? Pretty soon they might buy a ticket on another airline that plans to fly the published schedule.

I fly AS between SEA and ORD twice a month. They are down to two flights a day but haven't seen them cancel. If they give a couple days notice I can re-arrange my schedule but spur of the moment, more than a couple times, I'd be looking for another favorite airline.

During the April wind down we did a lot of cancelling. Now that things have stabilized we are slowly adding flights. A lot of it is on QX and OO so it's not much benefit to mainline pilots but it keeps the brand in the game.

However- they can't furlough a bunch of us and then expect to fly a full schedule. Even if they reduce flights they have EETO/ETO and Early Sep packages to run off. Just say its good news Zap. SAY IT!!
