Furlough Estimates

Not a pilot, but I work at AA in DFW. I'm waiting for mine as well. I'm sure they'll wait until 1659 and make us wait all day.

I’m really confused as I have seen the AA furlough numbers, yet I have seen a ton of non pilot managerial positions pop up on Aa dot com in the last 36 hours.

Me too. It's kinda weird. Most IT jobs from what I've seen.

I don’t want to sound like the naive optimistic person here, but those that are at a major staring at furlough, just remember the job is still yours. Whether that furlough is one year, two years or five. Throughout your career you will still be okay. The average major airline pilot salary is well above that of most that make a good life for themselves. The guys and gals that are at the regionals shutting down who I’m really concerned about, especially the lifers at a place like XJT that made the decision during the last downturn to stay put for stability.

Just remember a ton of people in this country are staring at some grim short term options, but this as all downturns will pass. Stay safe, stay healthy and just focus on what you need to do to keep the blue side up in the meantime.

I need to vent and I know I’m not the only one in this situation but bare with. This really sucks. I’m in the bottom 100, never got a chance to even fly the plane, and have no job opportunities on the horizon. Applied to over 100 jobs, rejected by some, ignored by most. Hell I can’t even find a job bagging groceries. I literally have no idea what I’m going to do.

It gets said over and over but seriously, don’t hesitate to reach out, even if it is just to vent.

Keep the faith buddy. I saw a post somewhere else. This guy’s “one thing” he’d tell the younger him about his furlough after the fact was: “this isn’t as of a big deal as you believe it is. It will pass, life will go on and you’ll be fine.”

Through all this I've been wondering... "well, we can't all just become poor" but that seems to be what's happening to this economy, the majority of people I know are now out of work or on reduced hours. The industry is more a game of "musical chairs" rather than the ol' american "work hard and you'll succeed"

Staggering numbers at United. And what pisses me off the most is that 5 years from now when they start hiring again, there will be a line a mile long of hungry pilots anxious to get through door and insisting that "it'll never happen to me."

Last year senior captains were telling me to leave Eskimo for United and Delta. Saying there will never be a furlough again.

What a bunch of out of touch jokers

My newhire class will be the senior furloughees, May 15 hire. So with a soon to be third furlough notch on the belt that means the rest of the career is smooth sailing right? Thankful for the extra six months from taxpayers and now the extra time with the kiddos while they grow up.
