Furlough Estimates

You do know that the virus doesn’t survive on surfaces that long right? Most viruses don’t. Even on clothes that’s a far stretch. Sure it survived on some surfaces under ideal conditions but that is far from the norm.
According to NYU, it's not going to last more than 72 hours on any surface. So if you do need to decon something, just leave it alone for 3 days.

If we actually believed in the “creative destruction” of capitalism places that didn’t keep cash on hand to cover emergencies would die and learn their lesson. Instead we enable bad behavior.

Okay you guys do realize that the financial aspect of running a multi billion dollar corporation is different than a household right? There isn’t some FDIC bank account that companies can put billions of dollars in for a rainy day.

They have to either use it as working cash, reinvest it in the company, or return it to the shareholders if reinvestment doesn’t provide a decent yield. Companies also have the ability to quickly raise cash in the form of debt that us normies dont have. With the successes of the last few years all the majors have billions in unencumbered assets they can borrow against. This is how they have been staying afloat and aren’t already in chapter 11.

I think stock buybacks are a horrible way to return capital to shareholders but this narrative that every company must be able to survive complete economic collapse for months on end is pretty ridiculous. Airlines aren’t Apple or Berkshire Hathaway, we must acknowledge that there might be no one to blame in this situation.

But I thought corporations are people?

The works only if the wife/husband doesn't go into your bag and mix it with the other dirty laundry. Then other family members come into contact with the laundry basket.

Soap basically dissolves it (the virus), so they’re fine either way.

I did have to laugh at the comment suggesting clothes too toxic for the family washing machine, but totally ok to take them to the public laundymat, ha ha.

I wouldn't go as far as going to the laundrymat. But I do laundry everytime I have to go out into the world around people.

You sound pretty miserable about 90 percent of the time. Being that pessimistic sounds exhausting.

Quite the opposite, actually. Realism and rational thought are liberating and relaxing. Constantly trying to force yourself to dream up a silver lining in the face of all evidence to the contrary is what’s exhausting.

If we actually believed in the “creative destruction” of capitalism places that didn’t keep cash on hand to cover emergencies would die and learn their lesson. Instead we enable bad behavior.

Unless you want to change laws to prohibit hostile takeovers, and give executes much greater latitude in what their fiduciary obligation to shareholders really means, then this can never happen. And that’s probably a good thing. A company that leaves six months of operating expenses sitting around in cash is insanity.

Survives longer if it’s in a humid environment. Keep this in mind regarding masks in zip locks and possibly contaminate clothes sitting in laundry baskets. Apparently my employer is now giving us one new N95 mask per week and it’s to be stored in a paper bag.

So we shouldn’t treat them like people?
