Delta - is this possible?

There's a conical tail like you'll see on the DC-9's:

Compared to the "screwdriver" tail. It's a slang that mad dog/diesel-9/MDGeeks use:

Russian Standard, Ketel One or Grey Goose? :)

Haha...yeah I figured that out.

I was making an attempt at a funny...

Scewdriver=Vodka+Orange juice :D

Fine, Florida's Natural, Simply Orange, Minute Maid or Sunkist? :)

He's pretty lucky he wasn't talking to a real Delta pilot. Hell, we've got our own language.

"Yeah man, after CQ I went down to the speedline, then went over to OC3, got on DBMS and looked for swaps in the pot. Flew on a mad dog to Hooterville, then flew back to Slick City on an 8-hunnert. Did you bid anything on the last entitlement or you happy being the plug on the 90?" :)

Not to have been MIA from the boards and jump back in on a random topic, but the speedline's been closed for a few weeks and should be opening back up tomorrow, that's the rumor anyway. New food choices and some Starbuck's for the addicts out there should make things interesting. You know, for when you get done with CQ. [/end Delta speak]

Oh, and by the way, the speedline is also affectionately known as the "hardbody" by some of the guys in my group up here. They've mentioned the reputation that earned the name has dwindled in the last 5 years or so, but the round of newhires at the beginning of last year brightened some spirits.

Last couple of times I was at HQ, I tried to find your cubicle but never could!

That's the plan. After jumpseating a couple of times on the -880's ;) I've all too many times heard "Oh...you're the guy that comes up with this ::insert expletive here:: stuff".

We are kind of hidden where we are...no windows or anything. I'll have to put together a treasure map for you when you head back this way. Let me know when you'll be visiting the mothership and I'll make sure you have it in hand before you leave WHQ.

The worst comment I've heard so far was via our co-op who flew with a CA that was an Auburn AE grad. Our co-op introduced himself and told them what he did, engine out/weight and balance, etc. He them told the CA that the guy that did EO Dp's was an Auburn grad as well....the guy responded...."Well that explains why they're so f'ed up."

We were told that it's designed that way so it will roll to the side when the tail cone is ejected in an evacuation.

We have a winner. Although, technically, its not designed to roll to the side, rather to stay on the side it rolls to. Minor detail.

I'm sure he meant that in a friendly way.......maybe.

War Eagle! from another AU AE '79

Oh, don't let pilot's whining dissuade you from your work man! :)

I still remember the skipper briefing the heck out of the EO procedure in RNO and reminding him "Uhh, we're in a -90, bro"

War Eagle back at ya!

Doug,
With all do respect, we here in performance engineering respect the limitations of the mind capacity of the MD-90 flight crews and like to adjust our procedures accordingly. We figure straight out for as long as we can and one turn is pushing the physical limitations....thus generating RNO 16L/R EO procedures. :D

Actually, the -90 can climb so stinking well it was a bigger issue trying to turn it in the bowl to the south. Now that you're on the -300ER, you're with everyone else. Unless you get to fly one of the 757-200W's around, then you're on the freaking Corvette of the fleet from the performance standpoint of what we can request the crews to do with those birds.

Ooh, while I've got your ear, did they ever fix the bugs with the wind uplinks? We got a live wind uplink when we were coasting in a few months ago, it knocked out the L and C FMC and axed the autopilot without even an aural warning.

Kind of strange screaming at the captain to "stop whatever the F you're doing!!" :)

I would like to say positively "yes", but I can't say that and be 100% sure about it. Granted that it would not be us who is directly involved in that type of stuff, but I did hear some grumblings about it that have since quieted down alot.

Things have been pretty busy around with regards to SOC+1 (Day of single operating certficate + 1), basically the first full day of a common certificate. Everyone is trying to analyze and decide on which way to go for a final operating decision, red vs. blue, and then realizing the scope of what they're deciding on stretches farther than they anticipated.

I have been pretty out of place for the last few months. Our newest son was born September 25th, and ever since then, if it hasn't been aircraft performance related or childcare related it hasn't been towards the top of my "to-do" list. Having a 3 year old and a 4 month old can wear you down pretty quick. I love what I do here for Delta, but I never thought I'd prefer going to a hectic day at work as opposed to staying at home with my sons. I love them both with all my heart, but I think they may already be planning on taking over our household in the coming year.
