There's a conical tail like you'll see on the DC-9's:
![]()
Compared to the "screwdriver" tail. It's a slang that mad dog/diesel-9/MDGeeks use:

Russian Standard, Ketel One or Grey Goose?![]()
Technically, it's not moving...![]()
Hey, question for you. What is the name of that big ball of fire in the sky that moves from east to west?
...lol, smart ass. You know what I meant!![]()
Yeah, Doug. We all know he meant it's being pulled by a guy in a chariot across the heavens!
He's pretty lucky he wasn't talking to a real Delta pilot. Hell, we've got our own language.
"Yeah man, after CQ I went down to the speedline, then went over to OC3, got on DBMS and looked for swaps in the pot. Flew on a mad dog to Hooterville, then flew back to Slick City on an 8-hunnert. Did you bid anything on the last entitlement or you happy being the plug on the 90?"![]()
Last couple of times I was at HQ, I tried to find your cubicle but never could!
We were told that it's designed that way so it will roll to the side when the tail cone is ejected in an evacuation.
The worst comment I've heard so far was via our co-op who flew with a CA that was an Auburn AE grad. Our co-op introduced himself and told them what he did, engine out/weight and balance, etc. He them told the CA that the guy that did EO Dp's was an Auburn grad as well....the guy responded...."Well that explains why they're so f'ed up."
Ah! But what's different about the tailcone on the MD-90 apart from the -88?
