It DOESN'T work that way?

What's the point then?

Getting hired at a major seems to be all about "does this person fit the culture and is someone who will work well with everyone else here since they'll be here for (probably) a few decades."

Having a long bid avoid list seems to be the surest indication that the hiring board screwed up that evaluation.

Because people can be trained to fool you for a 1-day interview.

…Also, with each 121 carrier I have worked for, only FOs were/are allowed to avoid flying with certain captains. I would venture to guess that the majority of the captains that are avoided are more seniors; they were hired long before present day hiring boards were in place.
There is a work around- I’ve handed my employee number to several FO’s and told them to put me on their no fly list.

With all of the mergers from the last 30 years, Delta, American, United (and even Southwest) are a mash-up of various pilot groups. The cultures don't always mesh.

There's always a new generation of problem children waiting to take the place of retirees. The problems may be different problems, but theyre still present.

You mean the video in which he, himself, accidentally stalled?

Reminds me of Jerry explaining how a 45 degree bank angle and a 20 degree pitch down angle is a totally "ok" and "norma"l way to exit the clouds with less than 1000 feet between the plane and the ground. This is normal 'cause he said so on YouTube.

Or how asking a sovereign state's Secretary of State for 11,780 votes is "normal. This is "normal, 'cause he said so on national TV. Let's not even consider the aggressive "hint" that if the 11780 votes didn't show up, federal prosecution "might" follow. There's nothing to see here. Move along ... but as you move along, don't forget to holler and yelp about how the libtards are weaponizing the Justice Department.

Everything is "normal" these days. Abusive parents are "normal" to the children who experience abuse. Those children have no context by which to judge normalcy.

Abused citizens who have no constitutional context by which to judge think coup d'etats are "normal"
Oh dear! Haven't seen that one. I'm referring to the one which he did with flight chops.

I'm getting to a point in my career where I'm all about "W2 and chill" and don't even notice these blokes as they blow up their lives on aviation socials... Meanwhile my FO is making a tiktok of where he gets to store his bag on the -900's "secret compartment."

This is accurate.

Through my career. The boomers complained about the Vietnam vets, my generation largely didn't understand boomer's fascination with the Beatles, Buffett and being pissed off at the world as they sit on the porch of their second vacation home, Millennials probably loathe X for whatever reason I could give less of a poop about but don't bother me, Gen Z thinks Millennials are a bunch of whiners (not my words)...

It'll continue on and on until the sun goes supernova.

The thing we must realize about this seemingly "natural" state of society is that it is not "natural". Not at all. It is engineered. Since the creation of the "teenager", marketers have been intentionally slicing and dicing us in order to manipulate us into purchasing things based on those artificially crafted divisions. First they tell us who we are. Then they sell us the products that demonstrate "our" affiliation with that particular slice of "us". It's all marketing-induced tribalism, and it's all a contrived crock.

Exactly. When I was in roles that involved me interviewing and hiring people, I didn't ask any of those stupid canned answer questions. I wanted to see how\who you were, not how well you learn to BS your way thru a stereotypical interview. Those who were able to bring down their walls and just "chill" and have a conversation and honestly tell you about themselves usually turned out to be great team members who got along with people. I only ever regretted one hire which is a pretty good track record for that method. I sincerely fail to see how a typical canned response interview tells you anything about the person beyond the fact they practiced getting thru a generic interview.

Cultures other than cultures of excellence bother me. I'll take an aerodynamics culture over a Grns, Grnds, and Gys culture any and every day of the week. I really don't care in which state or hood your particular trailer park is located. All I really care about is, if two or three systems fail at the same time, do you freak out? Or do you take a deep breath, wind your watch a couple of turns and start solving problems and/or continue to fly the airplane.

As far as I can tell, the biggest difference between airline pilot rosters and yogurt is that yogurt actually possess an active culture.

Which is exactly why I was baffled that guy came on there and groveled like he did.

The whole thing was probably faked.
There's a whole lot of groveling before bullies going on these days... every 6 days of the week and most Sundays... maybe especially on Sundays.
Last night was a perfect example.

However, I'm pretty happy being left to my own devices and playing video games all day without much need for social interaction.

That's pretty "X".
Yeah, IDGAF is our generations mantra. We learned it from our parents negligence, embraced it and then thrived. Now we own the world and SDGAF. The Forgotten Generation is a pretty cool name for a legacy.

A million times this. I have a hard time giving a poop about stuff I don’t care about.

FOMO, YOLO, and this inherent need people have for narcissistic activities has me completely baffled. Yet we’ve had people post on this very forum that they wouldn’t hire someone without a social media “presence”, whatever TF that means.

All three were all retired military jackasses. Just a reminder that it is a myth that • only reside in the left seat. It's an easy job that people go out of their way to foul up. Life is too short to fly with those guys. No fuss, no muss.
