Current Employment Verification

I am uneasy for several reasons. (1) I am fairly new- only been here since October- and fairly certain my boss would begin looking for my replacement immediately. (2) I don't want to be replaced, then have to wait 6 months to a year to start.
Plus, I really like the people I work with and feel guilty for not keeping them posted on this (for the reasons mentioned above.)

they send them out pretty quickly after the pepc...my employer had it within a week to a week and a half...at most

The large mortgage company I worked for from 2002-2007 is now out of business. This time spans most of my career, being that I entered the work force in 2000.
If they're unable to verify my employment by traditional means, would they accept alternate docs like pay stubs or something?

So I will mention it when I get back from PEPC. Thanks Bipp! Anyone got any great recommendations on how to break it?:D

I actually told my boss yesterday over lunch. I told him I had an opportunity to do my dream job. I told him that it is still up in the air and that if I didn't get it I was completely happy here at my current job. I just see ATC as a personal dream I would like to achieve.

He took it great. Just asked that I communicate with him. He said it would be wrong for him to be upset or not support me in my endeavor.

Just be honest with them.

Dude. We're still dealing with the government. Just the OPM this time. I don't think they say... uhhh. Let's make sure we send this out exactly 3 days after PEPC, but no later than 5 days after PEPC. Ensure that it reaches the contact no later than 7 days after PEPC. They get to it when they get to it.

You don't have a supervisor there that you're close with at all? No contact that you can trust? I'd feel much more comfortable just laying it all out for my boss, as I did, then being called into an office after the letter is received by him/her.

Glad that you feel the openness with your employer. I agree with ruler of the sky. I am not that far into the process but that would concern me. If you have ever gone to site jobvent.com. I work for one of the top 10 worse employers in the nation. I dont trust anyone there.

I trust and respect all of my coworkers, especially my boss. My concern is making sure they know, but not jumping the gun and being jobless while waiting for an OKC date.
And... not a dude. Thanks:D

Exactly. Thank you.

I told my employer when I first got hired that I was going through this federal process.. and she was cool with it.. which is weird.. but I keep her updated every time I make it to another step.

and she told me she's going to give me a good reference.

Thanks to all, for the replies and suggestions. I am going to discuss it with my boss after PEPC. Here is what I plan to say...

Bossman, I applied for Federal employment in may of last year. Recently I have been notified that I am being considered for the position. I have not decided if I will accept should an offer be presented, but part of this process requires a security clearance. I expect they will want to confirm my employment here before potentially presenting an offer.

Or something of that nature...
:o

Well said.

My employer still does not know that I went to the PEPC. However, I've been slacking on my paperwork and need to get stuff sent off to the powers that be so they can start sending out security stuff.

The way I understand the process is TOL -> Drug Test -> Medical -> MMPI -> Security -> FOL

So say for example you fail your MMPI, they're going to make you retake it before checking out your security clearances, however this could be incorrect; just my experience.

I don't know for sure either, but I think if you fail the MMPI they will continue to so the seurity check and any other check which is still pending. Parts of the security check is done before the MMPI is scored, for example if there is a projected major problem with the security check they will talk to you either at the PEPC or shortly after. The FAA assumes that most people will proably clear the re-take MMPI and evaluation which is a long process, so I don't think they want to drag it out anymore.

I feel your pain rulerofthesky...

I am in the same boat. ATC is my dream job, and would be a step up ultimately, but right now I have it pretty darn good. As much as my boss loves me, and as nice of a guy as he is, I am basically an experimental wing of the company. I think if he knew I am not here for the long term, he might just call the whole thing off. If that is a month or two before OKC, then it is fine. If it is several months before OKC, that is a lot of income I am going to have to replace somehow. I know I am not quitting to go work at McDonald's...it is the gov't etc...but I also sure as heck don't work at McDonald's now. If I let the cat out of the bag, get fired as a result, and then don't get an OKC date in the next 2 years and turn 31, it could be the worst decision of my life to throw away what I have now.

My plan is to just delay it as long as possible. When I do tell him, I am going to stress it has always been what I've wanted to do and that I would love to stay and appreciate the opportunity but I have to get the training in before I turn 31 or I will never be able to pursue my dream... Then I am going to cross my fingers and be prepared to get a crappy temp job quick if need be.

The bad thing is this is such a small company I don't have anyone I can route it to... either me, or the owner directly. I would love to have a manager confidant. If you have one...that's your way through.

If your employer were to let you go, without a letter of resignation being submitted, are you eligible for unemployment? With the economy the way it is, I don't foresee being able to find another job (even a temp position).

My boss and I are pretty cool. I told him when I applied to transfer to his area in Nov that this was an avenue I was looking into. My question is where do they get the supervisor info from...the initial application that I filled out for Pubnat 4 or will they ask me later for it? Current boss is cool, ex-boss was cool, but a little pissed I left her area.

You fill out yet another form :panic: (E-quip, i think it was called) which you will get, depending on the route you take, at your PEPC or after your interview.
