Current Employment Verification

I am considering going through the application process and have been reading up on how it works. For anyone that has gone through the process, I have a couple questions:
1) At what point do they start contacting employers for employment verification (Specifically for your current employer). Is this right after the PEPC?
2) Can you request to have them not contact your current employer until after you have a set academy date?
With the position I am currently in, my job would probably be in jeopardy if they were to find out I was looking at different career paths. Has anyone else been in a similar situation that could share some advice? (Yes I did use the search function but it did not answer these question specifically)

they dont contact your job until after the pepc. all they do is send a letter to whoever you list as your boss. so maybe if you have a nice manager there who can fill out the form you will be fine. its a really dumb form. has like 8 questions on it. they also contact your boss like 5 days before your class date to verify that you do still work there and havent been fired.

My office was sent the paperwork fairly quickly and our secretary called me in and told me about receiving it etc. If I were you I might consider talking to your boss first for ex. Hey I really enjoy working here and want to continue working here but I am considering this other option......rather than them randomly receiving a job clarification paperwork. Good luck!

Can you request that they not contact your current employer? I really don't want to tell mine until I have an OKC date...

Has anyone seen the mailing? Who does it come from. I would like to ask my secretary to screen for it so I know when it comes in. And it is confirmed that all they do is send a letter not a call? Makes sense much less work.

My company is a large corporation and they have strict non-disclosure policies. They are prohibited from answering any questioning pertaining to job performance. They can provide hire date, termination date, outgoing pay rate, and whether the employee is re-hire able or not. Do you know if the FAA has an override for this (like the feds and local pd's) or are the questions not that specific?

Do you know if they send it to your "boss" or your listed "supervisor"? My boss doesnt even know who I am really...

Also how quick after ur PEPC did your backround emails go out?

my dad's owned his own business for 35 years and I've learned that employers don't really care about personal details.. everything's looked at from a distinctly administrative perspective..

John Doe:

Re-hirable? No
Reason for leaving? Fired - frequently tardy/late/no call no show
Notes: John Doe was a hard worker, promoted early - smart kid - personal issues interfered with job performance.

that's an entirely rough example but it's similar to that i'm sure.

your real boss will get the form.. he'll pull open your file from HR and look at the notes/comments and relay the pertaining information requested by the FAA.

plain and simple

the questions are not really that specific..more like, do you do drugs, would you re-hire....crap like that. and they arent real questions...they are fill in the bubble questions

I remember it saying something like. List current employers address. Then it said list supervisor and address if different from employers address. So i just had it sent to his home addy.....Or I think so.... Hmmmmmm

Okay, I am really uneasy about telling my boss before having an FOL. I need to know exactly how long after PEPC they contact your current employer.
Someone.. Anyone help?!

Dude. We're still dealing with the government. Just the OPM this time. I don't think they say... uhhh. Let's make sure we send this out exactly 3 days after PEPC, but no later than 5 days after PEPC. Ensure that it reaches the contact no later than 7 days after PEPC. They get to it when they get to it.

You don't have a supervisor there that you're close with at all? No contact that you can trust? I'd feel much more comfortable just laying it all out for my boss, as I did, then being called into an office after the letter is received by him/her.

I asked the person I listed as my supervisor and they stated that they had not received anything yet. I submitted my SF-86 the 2nd week of December and I have a tentative clearance. I've kept him in the loop since I was put on a referral list back in September.

Sorry but it's whenever they get to it. When the letters did go out, the people who got them (almost everyone on my SF-86) received them within a day of each other.

Your uneasy because you think your going to lose your job? Its not like you are leaving your job to go work at McDonalds, its for a secure government job (as long as you can pass your stuff :-P). I don't know who could blame you, and if they did fire you because of it you'd have a lawsuit on your hands... now of course if your late to work or do something stupid and get canned that's your fault.

I am uneasy for several reasons. (1) I am fairly new- only been here since October- and fairly certain my boss would begin looking for my replacement immediately. (2) I don't want to be replaced, then have to wait 6 months to a year to start.
Plus, I really like the people I work with and feel guilty for not keeping them posted on this (for the reasons mentioned above.)
