People speak differently when they feel they're anonymous, but no one is actually anonymous. Each time you open a browser, the search engines will use AI and algorithms to attempt to identify you for ad purposes. With enough interactions and data, you are able to ferret-out social media profiles, email addresses, purchase history, browser history and effectively and quite easily determine who someone is.
There's such a vast amount of information about there that no one cares other than to make sure what Alexa heard you talk about or that article you read converts into relevant ads and tailored online experiences.
Start talking about blowing up stuff in DC on Reddit, the powers that be may not reveal themselves, but it's certainly indexed and available if it's worthy of investigation.
