Clay Lacy

Pay2

Oberkellner
Anyone from there on here?
A former coworker called me up yesterday all excited that he got upgraded from the Lear SIC to the Hawker 800XP. I was pretty happy for him as I knew he'd been part time on the Lears for the last year and a half making crap and being treated the same. THEN he told me about the upgrade. He was offered the upgrade without asking but was told that since he's low time (4000 TT 1700 multi 1200 multi turbine) he'd need to pay for the type himself AND his salary would start out 10K less than the other Hawker SICs. What a bunch of BS! If your employer really thinks you're ready for an upgrade they're going to be ready to pay it for you. A company that values its pilots doesn't do this. And a pilot who has half a brain doesn't allow themselves to get suckered into this kind of situation. Believe it or not it is okay to say no or at least try to negotiate the upgrade.
Come on people, lets be a little less "skank-ish" with ourselves. Quit working for "experience" and start working for a paycheck. I sent my bank an envelope full of experience to pay my mortgage last month and that didn't go over so well.
That is all...

Then don't go work for them... Problem solved.

On a side note: That is some interesting info. I was wondering what was going on over there....

That is how he has run his outfit from the beginning. I cannot say what I would really like to about him since this thread is not in the Lav. Scab at UAL when I walked the line. Enough said. Your friend needs to look for another job. The list of his interesting behavior is long, such as lying to the FAA about his true age. His fleet of Lears was old enough at one point to have beards. Uses young pilots, makes them pay for their own training, and paying crap wages. There is much more. But I am not going there.

Please, do go on.

When I grow up, I'm going to open a scum bag operation and capitalize off of people's stupidity.

I personally have no intentions of working there. I am enjoying letting others pay for my upgrades while being able to support my family on my salary.
I'm just not quite sure who to be more upset at. My friend for going along with the shenanigans or the employer for pulling this crap?

Some haven't been so lucky. Some need to get their foot in the door where they can. So they can eventually have a job like yours.

Neither. To each their own. The best thing you can do is to choose not to be a part of it, if you feel so strongly about it.

Say what you want about the place. It's where a lot of guys/girls get their start, and it's still better than most. Most of the aircraft on line there are owner aircraft managed by Clay Lacy Jets. Some fly 135 others just 91. I believe that is the case for the Hawker they just got. It's all in the contract negotiations that CLJ made with the aircraft owners. It's just too bad that the pilot's are always the ones to get shafted, but your friend might have had some negotiating room that he just didn't take advantage of. Lesson learned. There's some jobs that will just give you a raise, then there are some jobs where have to go get it. I just think it's strange that they would do that to someone who was already working for the company. A new hire I could understand, since they could just up and bail for a better job in a year...

There is nothing strange about it. That is how he has always operated. And sadly, since there are always those who are willing to put up with this, do you really think they care if one of their pilots leave? There are more in the hopper ready, willing and able to take his place. If you think there was any real room for "negotiation", think again. And the friend will most likely take the offer.......golden handcuffs and all. They bank on this. But once a scab...always a scab. So that should tell you everything about his mentality and how much he values his fellow aviators.

+1.

He's got enough money to give people at FBOs he'll never see again a hat with his name on it but can't seem to scrounge up the cash to pay a decent wage for his pilots?

All I need to know about that.

"As to why his certificate was off, frankly, it was due to a small fib. But let's begin at the beginning. Lacy knew what he wanted to do with his life since he was 8 years old."
Lots of people on this forum probably knew what they wanted to try for a career when they were eight, too. Rhetorical question, but how many of them lied to do it?

From the Master Scab list:

"Lacy, H Clay UAL 85 46759, Mr Aviation “Pro Pilot of Year”, Lied about age to FAA, ALPA and UAL, Retired, ALPA"

He crossed the line on day one......day fricking one! The shoe leather hadn't even started to wear on the rest of our collective feet yet.

He was already wealthy, established in another business and yet when he was supposed to retire as he had reached the mandated age, he wouldn't go (he really wanted those additional two years in the left seat and the pay) and raised a huge stink and then brought forth the issue after all of those decades, that he had lied about his age. Lied to ALPA, to UAL, to the FAA and everyone else. And now he jokes about it. That's character for you.

Wow, I'd heard of his operation only because I did some California flying, but didn't know any of this.
