Clay Lacy

When I grow up, I'm going to open a scum bag operation and capitalize off of people's stupidity.
You don't need to grow up to do that.

In fact, you'd probably do better at it if you did NOT grow up, and did that. (Think little kids playing Monopoly.)

A lot of places these days will take advantage of you, and there are people lining up to take that seat, if you don't take it, there are a hundred more behind you that will happily take it. I for one have never paid for any of my type ratings, nor would I, I feel it cheapens the industry.... my two cents

Its funny I have seen a few people leave freight gigs to go to the "big leagues" so they see it, like Lacy, and SP in norcal. I have not heard good things about Clay Lazy's operation and would never go there.

I've been in an around Van Nuts my entire life nearly. There are a few places that the "old timers" told me to never set foot in. This was one of them. Take that for what you just paid for it though. Personally, a place with the operation the size of his, if he treats people well they'll give the same on return. There is a reason some other companies don't have high turnover.

I remember reading an article several years ago in Profesional Pilot written by Clay where he ripped into his FO for his performance on an international flight- such things as not putting on enough fuel. As I read it I asked myself- "Who was the captain on this flight? Clay or the other guy?" it sounded as if Clay just wanted to show up, press the starter and go. I'll see if I can dig up the article.

Let me tell you, he was never in line to win any popularity contest with his crews at UAL. The stories abound and were legendary. But he loved to play the big shot.......all the time and I mean all the time. It never turned off.

that whole fluff job interview/ life of clay just dripped with self love. Had I not heard the rest, I would have pegged him as a guy who would walk all over anybody he could, just to feel like he was on top.

Did they put him in sim so the fo's would stop calling out sick?

As someone else said "he will do whatever he can so that his employees will never have the opportunities he had". Pretty sad. His life story seems pretty cool, minus the stuff he leaves out; being a scab, lying about his age, exct. My DPE for my private/instrument was a senior United check airmen, who had the same attitude. He was better than everyone else.

Besides, you don't need to lie to get hired at an airline at 19! :-)

What do you expect from an unrepentant SCAB? All of this is right in line with what you should expect from such a scumbag. I struggle not to throw up every time I see a documentary that has Lacy as an "aviation expert." Don't go near him.

Ditto that. He sounds like he is proud of himself, yet quite obvious he is just another scummy guy (who made it big). But scummy none the less.

Unfortunately, or maybe fortunately for him I suppose, his scabbing seems to have no negative effect on his career. Almost as if it was just some sort of annoying speedbump in his life. One wonders with all he was doing and all he had, why even bother working at UAL?

I just think it's funny how everyone in GA thinks he's gods gift to aviation and every professional pilot pretty much despises him. Really, just think about it... ONE man, ONE industry, TWO polar opposites... And he's still successful on top of that... Hell, he used to fly his Lears single Pilot at VNY right across the runway, in plain sight the FSDO...! Part of me thinks that's kinda bada$$, while the other thinks, why the hell should HE be able to get away with it???? No matter what, there's no excuse to treat you pilots like that.... But OTOH, if the pilots are unhappy, they are free to leave.... Don't get me wrong, I'm not defending the operation. I just have a hard time when people complain about where they work & how they're treated. You're free to leave any time....

All you that say that you would never work or him... Guess who's door you would be knocking on if he was the only gig in town... Just say'n....

No, I definitely would not be knocking on this guy's door if he was the only game in town.

Easy thing to say when you already have a job...

I realize that, however, I have heard way too many horrible things about this guy well before this thread ever started. Some of the responses in this thread just confirm the tales.

Besides, if the pay is that low, the only point is to keep current since unemployment is higher than what some on here have said he pays. If the only point is to keep current, there are better ways to do it than working for him.
