Anyone from there on here?
A former coworker called me up yesterday all excited that he got upgraded from the Lear SIC to the Hawker 800XP. I was pretty happy for him as I knew he'd been part time on the Lears for the last year and a half making crap and being treated the same. THEN he told me about the upgrade. He was offered the upgrade without asking but was told that since he's low time (4000 TT 1700 multi 1200 multi turbine) he'd need to pay for the type himself AND his salary would start out 10K less than the other Hawker SICs. What a bunch of BS! If your employer really thinks you're ready for an upgrade they're going to be ready to pay it for you. A company that values its pilots doesn't do this. And a pilot who has half a brain doesn't allow themselves to get suckered into this kind of situation. Believe it or not it is okay to say no or at least try to negotiate the upgrade.
Come on people, lets be a little less "skank-ish" with ourselves. Quit working for "experience" and start working for a paycheck. I sent my bank an envelope full of experience to pay my mortgage last month and that didn't go over so well.
That is all...
