Cathay Cadet Program

Trying to put in an application for the Cadet Program for the future, what do they mean by Secondary Education Results? Examination/Level Achieved? I'm even typing in stuff that they use for examples and it kicks it back

I submitted mine sometime in early January, I think. Maybe they just haven't gotten to mine yet...but I doubt it. :laff:

I logged into CX and this is what it's telling me:

We are unable to accept an additional application as your current application is being processed.

No email, mid-July application. Oh well.

You wouldnt give up your Navy slot to fly for cathay, would you?

Hong Kong

Very nice! Good luck! :) If I may ask, what were your qualifications (degree, flying experience, etc).
In Singapore Airlines (SIA), there are pilots holding from different academic background and total different work scope from aviation before becoming pilot. Such as Lawyer (LLB), Doctor (MBBS = MD in U.S.A), Biochemist, Marine Engineer, Electrical Engineer, Accountant, Banker & etc.

In fact, the SIA pilots (not all) are armed with MBA and PhD!

EDIT: I see from your profile that you're a CFI with 600 some hours...that's probably what they're looking for.
Not completely true!

I wanted to get a degree in aviation, but my degree is a B.S. in Business Admin... My hours are very close to 700, CASMEL; IR, CFI and CFII. I'm very surprised that I got this e-mail...
People do not understand that why a BS BA holder wants to become a pilot.

People do not realise/understand that pilots do not need to receive an education related to aviation.

Secondary education is similar to middle school standard in United States!

The term "secondary" education (4 years of education after elementary) is adopted by the British. In Singapore, Malaysia and Hong Kong, they used the term "secondary school" instead of "middle school".

Just curious as to when you guys submitted your applications?
CX application just opened last year. There is a window period for overseas applicants.

Cathay Pacific ended their cadet pilot recruitment a few years ago and has not open until last year. The last recruitment they got was mostly Aussie and there were not many Hong Kees!

I'm getting the impression that CX is focusing its cadet program recruiting efforts on currently certificated pilots. In fact, I think I remember reading something to the effect that they are creating a specific program for such candidates. It's probably more cost effective and efficient in the long run to train previously certificated pilots. Anyhow, good luck to both of you on the interview process! :)

Correct.

In their words, hiring expats on expat packages is too expensive for the company. So, coming to CX as a 'Cadet' will mean no housing provided. Take a close look at what this means before arriving in HKG. If you have ever rent/bought in Manhattan for example, it might give you an idea of cost of living in HKG. Most of us who joined in years gone by, are only here (HKG based) because the company pays for our housing.

As an example, an apartment in Central (Hong Kong Island), renting a 700-800sq/ft apartment will cost approximately HKD$30,000/month = USD$3900/month. And trust me, it will be nothing modern. A further example, the company pays my rent of HKD$56,000/month (USD$7200/month) and that gives us 1900sq/ft living space (which is plenty!) but 30 mins from the city.

www.hongkonghomes.com will give you an idea of whats out there. Sure there are plenty of cheaper options to chose from, but if you want to be close to the action and close to where all of your expat friends and colleagues socialise, it will cost you. Good luck.

That's sweet. I applied around early March, Yeah, I don't think I will get it. Good luck to you all.

Sandesh

Hey All,

I'm keeping my fingers crossed for a call from Cathay...in the mean time I'd like to update my application with them. Does anyone know how to do that?

I've tried looking around their site, but can only find a place to update a CV, which is not what I submitted when applying for the Cadet Pilot slot.

Any help is appreciated!

I had a friend of mine do an interview last week in NYC. He's a CFI/CFII with around 500TT or so. No other details.

Has there been any movement activity with this Cadetship? I applied back in March and haven't heard anything from Cathay or heard of other screening going on at the moment...

From what I understand, they're pretty much looking for people who already have their Commercial...
