Cathay Cadet Program

Just because you are based in Hong Kong it doesn't necessarily mean you have to live there, right? After your training is complete and you join the line as an SO, can't you just commute?

Yes, you can live where you want. SOs have the best rosters in the company because all they do is long haul so they have lots of time off. Tons of guys live in Thailand or The Philippines (Manila is a 1.5hr flight). Flights are pretty full but Cebu Pacific is cheap.

Excellent point about commuting. I wonder how feasible it would be to commute from SFO or LAX?

That could really cut into your days off...

Nice. I will commute from Seoul. :)

Anyone wanna split a crashpad in HK..? :D

Hmm...Manila...if I ever do hear back that could actually work out amazingly. Not holding my breath though.

I've heard of guys who used to commute from JFK to Berlin back in Pan Am's day. I couldn't imagine doing that...I had jet lag horribly bad the first time I went to Europe.

Has anybody gotten a call yet for the interview, I just applied recently. I hope I am not too late.
I like Jetcareers way better than pprune. Those people are meaaaannnnn.... Keep it up guys. I feel so relaxed at this place.

Best Regards and good luck to all.

Wouldn't they remove the app link from the website after their quotas of apps are filled for that cycle?

I know a number of JFK pilots living in France, The Netherlands, Germany and Spain!

You know, some days JFK to Spain is only a little longer than JFK to PHX.

And surprisingly, Spain's got better tapas. Whodathunk? :)

Do you know if you don't get picked for the interview, will we get a email saying sorry? so we can apply to the next cycle, and how long do we have to generally wait to apply to the next one?

I just received an invitation e-mail for an initial interview in San Francisco.
Very nice! Good luck! :) If I may ask, what were your qualifications (degree, flying experience, etc). I hope I get such an email, but I doubt it.

EDIT: I see from your profile that you're a CFI with 600 some hours...that's probably what they're looking for.

I wanted to get a degree in aviation, but my degree is a B.S. in Business Admin... My hours are very close to 700, CASMEL; IR, CFI and CFII. I'm very surprised that I got this e-mail...

I'm getting the impression that CX is focusing its cadet program recruiting efforts on currently certificated pilots. In fact, I think I remember reading something to the effect that they are creating a specific program for such candidates. It's probably more cost effective and efficient in the long run to train previously certificated pilots. Anyhow, good luck to both of you on the interview process! :)

It might be. I'm a CSEL/CMEL working on my MEI right now. I only have 303 hours though. Completely surprised I got the email!
