Cathay Cadet Program

Is it too late for me to apply?
Not at all as far as I know. In fact, I'm waiting until at least the January timeframe to apply. It's probably a stupid move on my part, but I need to focus on finishing college and ensuring that I will indeed be able to graduate in the Spring.

Had you applied, been called for an interview, and consequently been hired, would you turn down the offer in order to finish your last semester?

Cathay requires a high school education at the minimum (published, but surely not competitive standards), so it's not like you wouldn't qualify.

Not attacking you in any way BTW. If anything, I'm adding more competition for myself by trying to encourage you to apply.:)

Eh, the way I figure it, these CPPs are so competitive, especially with only two being open to people outside of these airlines' native countries and one of them not currently hiring, that practically all people with a decent chance will have a degree or be finishing one before they start the program. That and I am that close to being done that it would be a shame to put my education on hold now. :)
After I graduated from two year college in 2008, I was all ready to go distance learning with my four year and make a push for Etihad's program, but I never did. I kind of always wonder if that would have worked out.

I don't think most people realize the scope of this.

Training is in Australia for 15 months - Pay is $100/mo but they provide everything.
You will be a SO for 2-3 years.
Upgrade to FO, finally able to bid out of Hong Kong.
FO for 8-10 years
Captain (back to the bottom of the list)

This is a career, it's not best to go there looking for PIC jet time.

They are probably only going to hire HK residents. Opening the program wider was probably just to increase the base of applicants. Who knows? :dunno:

My coworkers wife has an office and apartment in Hong Kong she uses on occasion and he used her address. He has a decent amount of ME time too but still has heard nothing, though I guess time doesn't matter as much in a Cadet Program.

I have personally applied for this program and have contacted a friend of mine who knows some people in the company's Operation (about a month ago). All he stated was that the company is being aggressive on hiring cadet pilots. He didn't say anything about when we would hear something from the company.

pprune.org is a really good site for CX info... ya just gotta be willing to sift through a lot of negativity to find whatever info you're looking for. Fragrant Harbour forums.

There's a thread on there for American applicants that hasn't been touched in a little while. Thanks for the heads up though.

I see on pprune they've been interviewing Canadians in the YVR area. Maybe they just havent made their way to the USA just yet.

But again, these are for cadets only. They arent interviewing or hiring SO/FO, and by what was said on pprune, they probably wont be for quite some time.

Yeah the cadet program is what I am interested in. I hope the program is still there in five months (hiring that is).

I wonder why they left America for last? Do they maybe think that we have it easier here and don't need a sponsorship as much as people from other nations do?

I wouldnt say they left the USA till the end. On pprune there's people from other geographic regions who havent been called either. Im sure if they continue to interview international cadets, they will eventually get to the USA area.

None of the guys I know who applied ever heard back. I talked to an Aquaintence whos an F/O at CX and he hasn't heard a thing about any Americans getting a call.
