Bye bye, KCM

I typically commute sans uniform so my jam is to first hit south KCM if there isn't a big line. Then depending on line status/random I head to the north side actually. That way I can use the north KCM since no one hardly uses it or if I've been randomed then I can stroll right into the CLEAR line there. Going north adds a few minutes but easier out of uniform.

Also, south CLEAR isn't pre-check so there's that.

edit to add; if you're in uniform the small south pre-check is fairly easy to jump in I believe.
I'm almost always in uniform so that is what I do, and I park at Fine now so that is the shortest walk from the drop off. I cut my commute times down to the wire, if I'm on my own metal I will show just as boarding begins so I hate wasting time walking back and forth at the checkpoint.

I’ve said the same for idiots who violate KCM with illegal contraband/items.

It sounds to me like a negligent discharge of a weapon. If so: straight up fired on the spot, out of the FFDO program on the spot, civil and criminal penalties for negligent discharge of a firearm.

Not a fan of extra airport time either. Shoot me a PM about Fine if you don’t mind. I Le hate landside parking.

That's a bummer, my recent move down south is just go through the pre-check line that spits out at A3 when I'm walking from the hotel. Straight to the front of the line and I don't have to worry about the mess around the KCM line.

Haha im not even kidding that I am considering moving back to EUG and air commuting to SEA when I retire from the navy reserves, partially to enter the system at a really chill small airport where KCM or not, you're through in 5 seconds, and avoid the Seatac TSA disaster entirely. A million own metal flights a day there. Maybe change base to PDX down the road when I could be comfortably senior there, but the juice isn't worth the squeeze in terms of relative seniority at the moment. They just resumed EUG to PDX legs, so that makes PDX base slightly juicier, could see if I get on, and then just do the same duration car commute I make right now from whidbey to SEA, if I don't.

You can always take Amtrak as well. I have wanted to take it down to Eugene.

We did take the kids on the day train from downtown Seattle to Eugene a couple summers ago. It was super delayed, and they didn't pay any attention to the sights out the window which was annoying. They just wanted to get up out of their seats and run around every 30 seconds for like 8 hours or whatever it was. But it is a cool ride, if you are mature enough to appreciate it, and without kids ruining it :)

I would be the only kid traveling, and I am usually well behaved.

I just took the train from LA (well, SBA because I wanted to be able to breath) to Seattle two weeks ago.

The section between Klamath Falls (when it got light out) and Eugene was kind of pretty, but other than that the route was meh. First time I've ever been on Amtrak and gotten in early though.

Nice! That's on my list of trains to try. I am hoping to take the train from New York to Home sometime this year.

The Lake Shore Limited to Chicago is nice enough. The Empire Builder onward to the west coast is really good. That said, I think the Zephyr between Chicago and Oakland is the most scenic of the long distance Amtrak trains.

Did you go big baller and get the room/suite?

I normally get a roomette. They are plenty comfortable enough for one person but it's really tight with two. If it's not just me, I'd get a full bedroom. When you consider all your meals are included, it's not too bad if you book it when amtrak is having a sale or a ways in advance.

Lately I have found last minute tickets have been cheaper.
