Bye bye, KCM

Until somebody important keeps having their flight delayed because their crew is stuck in security. Again.

This is basically the current situation at SEA and nothing ever changes. If I could have SFO's security situation I'd be laughing. At this point I think SEA is conducting some kind of phycological warfare experiment on the employees.

Real shame the A gates KCM hasn't returned.

Losing toiletries to TSA is my least favorite thing to do. "Uh, you're not in uniform? Wait, is that a uniform?" "It isn't, or is it? Either way, you know I sit at the pointy end, right? Confiscating shampoo, shaving cream, isn't going to change the destination or the trajectory of the plane...."

That boat sailed long ago. The govt said there was a liquid bomb ploy, forced the 3-1-1 rule, and nothing changed since 2006. The reason you’re still throwing stuff out is because of the BS 3-1-1 rule.

The whole thing is window dressing. Especially seeing as how there was no failure in airport security as part of the factors of 9-11. Everything brought through security that was used as a potential weapon, were things legal to bring through security at that time.

Exactly. I just don’t get why people have accepted it so much.

Guess what? It's not FAs. It's pilots.

In fact, I believe one of your fellow pilots just did something incredibly dumb involving a firearm while at work just today. Fortunately nobody died, but it could have been pretty damn bad.

While AT work? That sounds like a FFDO issue. I’m against that program.

Guns is probably more pilots than FAs. But drugs? Drug running? That’s a more FA issue.

Does nothing for us north ramp kitty cats. They have closed "our" KCM for who knows how long. Now have to go to CP 3 KCM, though that one on the right has a real easy shortcut to the front of Pre Check and they aren't weird dicks about letting you use it rather than General like they were at CP5. Had them try to tell me that because I was randomed, I couldn't use it unless I had a blue card, which they didn't issue to people. Fortunately the mil ID came in handy that day

Just give me a dedicated, flight crew online lane, with the rules of TSA precheck were I can keep my belt and shoes on, and Ill slide my bag in the machine no problem.

Yeah this. Line wouldn't be anything close to any of the others. It's pretty nice slipping into the secure area in 5 seconds with existing KCM on occasion, but id trade that random experience for a regular screening line for crew only. Could slim down my "leave the house" time a bit if I knew I wasn't going to possibly have to wait 5-10 mins in the normal TSA line

this may be an unpopular opinion, but no one is going to blow up an airplane with a baggie of pills. Even worse the times they’ve detained people for having too much cash. If ATF or whoever is responsible for drugs wants to screen airports, they can do it from their budget and leave the security folks out of it.
I got detained for 30 minutes because of a salt shaker with Himalayan pink salt. I had to wait for the explosives expert who happened to be on break. “Hey guys, it’s salt, in the shaker. You see the label? Salt”.

I just tossed it after that. Not worth it.

Well...devil's advocate. If you were up to EVIL, you wouldn't put a C3H5N3O9 Nitroglycerine label on the outside.

I knew the day would come.

When we first got it, we protected it like Sméagol does “The Precious”.

Then we added cabin crew shortly thereafter, which was fine, but the lower “cost” of entry in the profession wasn’t addressed.

Then the program expanded somewhat and people that weren’t flight crew had access to it (ahem, Skyw…nah, not going to go there)

Then the program expanded.

So the people that knew what life was like before KCM became the old curmudgeons. “Oh shut up gramps, it’s fine” when you’d see pilots basically drag all their travel companions belongings through KCM to avoid screening.

Then the guns, the knives, the contraband, the smuggling of drugs…

I don’t want to say I’m not shocked but there are so few people in the industry that knew what hell it was before we got the KCM system that don’t understand that all of the benefits aren’t “built-in” and have actively protected and if you bring contraband in, either willfully or not, we’ve done zero self-policing amongst ourselves.
