Any runners out there??????

How do you not get bored? I tried running and its horrible. Playing basketball or running stairs is fine. But running around the block or a treadmill is brutal.

It can get very boring. Running on the treadmill is horrible. for me 15-20 min max. As for around the block once you get your miles up you can take new routes and goto new places. So keep with it and eventually it will get better. Running is mostly mental you just got push yourself!

takes a lot of mental concentration/toughness but it's worth it.....I hate the treadmill, I rather run in the middle of ridiculous heat than waste my time going nowhere....I have strong feelings against it...just me though. Works for some people.

Keep running, it gets easier and you'll learn to enjoy it...trust me.

I used to run on roads and just got sick of it. Then I decided to take up the local trail systems around and have not looked back. It is important to keep variety in training and to set goals. Running on trails changes a lot of what you are use to and forces you work harder overall. What helps during a trail run is going off trail for a bit, finding fun things to jump off, crossing creeks, etc. Not only do these things change your cadence, but they force you to exert mental energy to overcome an obstacle.

I Second this big time! Training for a race is mentally brutal and it can get very boring....I only do long runs on the roads when I have specific workouts to do; the rest...trails. Complete different set of muscles you use, it's fun, different and always changing....plus it's softer surface so it won't fatigue your legs and body as much.

Yes, I am just starting to work up to a race in a few months...trail race of course. I have had a few fatigue issues and minor injuries but nothing like constant road abuse. I frequently change up my routes as well. I also noticed that I will exercise more to improve my running...exercises that work large core muscle groups. It all helps even more.

Running stairs and playing ball is great. If it's exciting, even better. I hate running around in circles. I get bored, also. I would rather just go out my door, turn left or right, and run until my workout time is halfway and then turn around.

No one has ran since June?

Ha! Not much, but yes I have been keeping up with some 3 and 4 mile runs. I did a 6 miler the other day and wow, I lost some endurance but I finished.

Wasn't able to do the race I was planning on, I ran into a few minor (but sustained) injuries that I wanted to mitigate in lieu of hurting myself further.

A few friends are talking about another half in a couple months, so I have that to look forward to.

Note: need some fresh Sollies.

Only conditioning stuff, no races. What marathon are you running this weekend?

Nah, just training runs. Around 120 miles a month, so not too bad, plan I'm trying peaks around 145 next month. I'm running a half on Labor Day, no fulls until Denver in mid-October, then Vegas in November. Vegas added a 5k on Saturday followed by the marathon on Sunday, so I'm going to give that a go.

Wife signed us up for the Star Wars half at Disney land in January. They have the "rebel challenge," 10k on Saturday and the half on Sunday, so we're doing that. Should be dorky and fun.

You should come out and run Vegas, super fun race.

@gne in prog , I'd love to do some runs, but this whole on the road 75% of the time really puts a damper on fun activities. I might have more free time in the near future, I'll keep you posted. Oh, We were planning on a 1/2 in New Orleans the weekend of January 25.

I rested a little but I'm building back up while I work on 800 speed for a few weeks. I usually do my military fitness test sept-oct and I'm trying to get as fast as I can.

Gonna be busy commuting to vacation on Sat, so I'm going to do a 1.5 mile time trial tomorrow near KLGA. Only found one track anywhere near my crashpad. Hopefully the natives are friendly!
