Any good aviation movies?

Haven't seen these mentioned yet...

"1941"
"Battle of Britain"
"Dark Blue World"
"End of the Spear"
"The Flying Misfits" (and the Baa Baa Black Sheep (Black Sheep Squadron) TV Series that followed the movie/pilot)

.

Good call on One Six Right.

Really, I seriously cannot stand that movie for whatever reason.

King Schools has made some good ones :D

and of course, Conair
I think the King School videos fall more under the category of pornography than aviation movies.

Head over to Hulu and watch the whole series of Carrier. Also, Speed and Angels.

I'm watching it right now. Pretty good, although I cannot stand the mixing of footage. They show the outside shot and it's an F-14, and then the cockpit view only has one tail :-/

I second "Bat 21".

Also, I liked "Flight of the Intruder"
My wife liked "Pearl Harbor"

I thought Executive Decision was awesome when i was 12, but now that I'm actually in the military, I can't stand to watch that movie.

Air Force One
Always http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Always_(film) (for those who liked the movie Ghost)
Flight of the Black Angel
Flightplan (kinda stupid i thought, no airplane has that kind of spare room in the back)
Passenger 57
Drop Zone
Sky Fighters (Les Chevaliers du Ciel, french film like Top Gun)
The Final Countdown

Opening and closing scenes of Best Years of Our Lives
Jet Pilot w. John Wayne.. some good aerial shots but funny stuff between janet Leigh and Wayne
Strategic Air Command.. shots of -36 and -47
12 O'Clock High.. top notch for story and scenes
Blue Max.. Usula
Great Waldo Pepper before Redford went bonkers
Flight of the Phoenix (original)
Airplane.. 'picked a fine time to quit drinking'
A Guy Named Joe (better than Always because of the P-38s)
Bridges of Toko-Ri (Where do we get such men)
Piece of Cake (almost without parallel.. a must for anyone who loves Spitfires)
Catch 22 (Heller's insanity with Alan Arkin as the only one who could have done Yossarian)
Toward the Unkown (great shots of the Martin tri-jet bomber, the XB-51)

Many of my favorites have already been mentioned. I'll just mention some that I haven't seen listed yet...

"The Spirit of St Louis" with Jimmy Stuart. A classic.

"Mercy Mission" -A true story about a guy getting lost over the ocean while ferrying a Cessna across the Pacific. Some of the flying scenes are holywood but it's a good movie.

"B-29- Frozen in Time" -Not a movie but a Nova documentary about a crew trying to salvage a B-29 in northern Greenland. They use a Dehavilland Caribou to ferry parts and supplies. A must see.

Cloud Dancer one of my favs. The flying scenes are awesome. The movie is about Competiton Aerobatics in the World! Staring David Carradine and Jennifer O'Neil. Paul Poberezny, Jimmie Leeward did the flying.

Forgot about that one!

Gonna have to "steal" it from the house next time I am back home...

OK. It was mentioned only once here and, admittedly, it's a bit of a sleeper so I'd like to place my "2nd" on Pushing Tin. For you ATC wanna-be's, some of the radar stuff is a bit "Hollywood" but if you've ever worked in a TRACON, you know the personalities of the controllers in this movie are dead on. I've worked with every one of those guys. It's a hoot.

Tm

When we toured Ft Worth Center a few months ago, the controllers said 'Pushing Tin' was to them what 'Top Gun' is to pilots. :D

Disney's 'The Kid'.

"You mean we're forty, not married, don't have a dog, and never became a pilot? We grow up to be LOSERS!"

:)

Already mentioned, and not an aviation movie....just a comedy that happens to have parts with great flying and stunt scenes; 1985's Fandango.

These days, where stunts are a dying thing ("just CGI it"); you won't find stunts of this caliber anymore. Great stuff. Hell, just getting permits to film in urban/congested locations like this with these sort of aerial stunts is unlikely anymore.

I do not know how to embed a video from a place other than youtube, because DarrenF hasn't taught us that yet. Here is my favorite episode of one of my favorite TV shows ever - WKRP in Cincinnatti. This episode features a good friend of ours. The Waco is a rare Waco UMF-3, the pilot is Harold Johnson. Harold was the Mayor of South Dayton, the Judge, and also flew daily airshows over Kings Island amusement park. Very nice man and a great host. The Aeronca Chief that I started learning to aviate in was purchased from him for $3,000 - flew for 12 years before we needed to recover it.

I had to go to two different sources to get this episode in its entirety. Part two of the episode has lots of aerobatics, part one is funny for the opening scene. Excellent episode of a great show.

OMG! That's the funniest thing I've ever seen.

I'll never look at Dallas traffic the same way again. EVER. :yup::yup::yup::yup::yup:

What's the matter MikeD, couldn't find the clip of the Jimi Hendrix Experience 172 doing the split-s??? That was some great stunt flying though!

The Great Waldo Pepper with Robert Redford is hands down the best aviation movie of all time.

Second is Memphis Belle, third is The Right Stuff.
