Any good aviation movies?

How about "The Great Waldo Pepper"?

Good one! Frank Price did the spin in that movie - the one where it looks like the recovery happens at 25 feet. He did the Kessler stunt flying scenes at the airshow - not sure what other flying he did in the movie.

The Right Stuff. There are other good ones, but that movie is the litmus test for whether or not I'd want to fly with you. If I wanted to fly with anyone.

Wasnt there a movie with john travolta starring in it as an airline pilot? I dont remember much of it but it was kind of a drama showing how he was working a lot and wasnt home for the holidays.

Broken Arrow GREAT trailer here

John Travolta: "Would you mind not shooting at the thermonuclear weapons????"

Christian Slater: "You're out of your mind!"
John Travolta: "YEAH! Ain't it COOL?"

Catch-22

It's comedy and more focused around military life, but has some flying in it. Watched the movie after reading the book, not as good but a good comedy.

Empire of the Sun

God, how could I forget that one? The scene where the pilots catch the kid with his hand on the Zero, and then they step back and salute him, is one of the most beautiful things ever put on film. The way the welding sparks fly across the camera made me weep like a little girl the first 437 times I saw that movie.

OK. It was mentioned only once here and, admittedly, it's a bit of a sleeper so I'd like to place my "2nd" on Pushing Tin. For you ATC wanna-be's, some of the radar stuff is a bit "Hollywood" but if you've ever worked in a TRACON, you know the personalities of the controllers in this movie are dead on. I've worked with every one of those guys. It's a hoot.

Look Who's Talking Now is what I think you're thinking of, though he was a corporate pilot in that one. Flying is referenced in the other two Look Who's Talking movies as well.

The Blue Max
Memphis Belle (the 1944 documentary)
The Right Stuff (already mentioned several times over, worthy of at least one more)

All of the movies mentioned here are worth checking out, but I have to say United 93 blew me away. It would be the most realistic movie from an aviation perspective. The way the film showed interaction between pilots and ATC was pretty much spot on. The performance from the actors who played the ATC and pilots was outstanding.

I have a burnt copy of the Jolly Rogers combat cruise 2007 that is pretty sweet. Not really a docu nor movie, just compiled footage of deployment, F-18's, and stuff blowing up.

The Magnificent Nation film project has some good footage being compiled but not sure what the status is of it lately? http://www.magnificentnation.com/
