Alaska Hawaiian Merger Serious Version

Delivery "slated" lol

7 deliveries required to equal the number of tails when I was still on probation

Ya'll gonna learn about expectations.

Ok, this has bugged me for a very long time and I'm bored so I have to ask, why the obsession with fleet size?

Are you that concerned over seniority progression? Do you think it means your airline is gonna wither and die? Do you have a bet on the table in Vegas that Alaska will be above a certain number of planes on a specific date and if you miss it you're gonna be out a lot of money?

Not trying to be flippant (well, maybe a little, I am bored after all) but honestly I've never understood the obsession.

The plane is in Renton already built. They talked about slowing the 900 retirement to finish the end of ‘25. I’m sure they’ll milk them for all they’re worth. But yeah, the sky is falling.

Because it is the most important factor in QOL? We wont get a contract with good work rules and pay. Just pay. So growth is my only opportunity for QOL.

Do you want to hold freighter turns or nice day turns to SNA? You can either wait 25-30 years to hold those things as a captain, be lucky enough to snag one in open time or the airline can grow.

Am I excited about the prospect of a big 330 order. Hell yeah! Because I want to fly them? F no! I don't want any of that. I did that in a large cabin business jet and it was awful. I want a bunch of senior people to me who haven't done it to bid for the "big glamorous aircraft."

Then I'll happily do the shortest day turns in the system.

Pointing out that the airline is smaller than it was when I started basically, is pointing out that these opportunities do not exist. You either have to wait for people to retire or die.

Just keep in mind when you pound your chest about how amazing it is that this aircraft was delivered you're really pounding your chest about how little opportunity we have for our career to grow.

It's good the decision to not extend the 900 classics into 25 and retire them all by July has been reversed. I'll believe it when I see it but that would mean we could possibly stop shrinking on the 737 side.

Provided Boeing doesn't F up again of course.

I was just curious so I guess that explains it. I wasn't sure if it was some deep seeded fear of losing your job or just schedule griping. Seems a bit of a defensive answer which considering that I was a bit glib is probably duly deserved and I can accept it.

I'm 90% in seat. In a base that Network Planning has said is overstaffed. On a fleet that's not growing. It helps I guess that I want middle of the week off and I couldn't give a rats back side where I fly to on my trips that beyond a few needed days off each month I just leave a fairly generic bid of "minimum credit window, these 3 weekdays off, and bid avoid ATL" and it works for me. Hell, in 25 years of seniority based airline jobs (gah I feel old now) I think the highest I've ever made it in terms of bidding seniority was around 70%. I long ago made peace with getting crap schedules. Plus I have too much going on in life outside the air line to really have much interest in schedule modification to rectify the effects of my seniority so I just accept my bid as is and move on. Admittedly I have been doing it so long I kinda lose track of the fact that for some people it matters a lot more for them than it does for me.

You have been at Alaska long enough to know that there is not going to be a big 330 order, there isn’t going to be a small 330 order for that matter.
