AA Hiring Soon

What type of candidate is AA looking for? I knew someone with 17yrs ETOPS experience and they couldn't even get an interview!

ETOPS experience likely isn’t too big of a deal. Everyone works only domestic for a year and even once you get international qualifications it’ll be years before you can hold the desk

That would have been great for SWA when they first launched Hawaii. They were very interested in ETOPS experience at that time. But it's all about what a particular airline wants at a particular time, I have heard that AA is really interested in Flight Keys experience this time.

Well, WN kind of screwed themselves, the should have flat out bought ATA when they had the chance. They would have had ETOPS authorization, trained crew and dispatchers, a training program in place, had brand new ETOPS certified 737 that had the software for 24.5k, 26k and 27k thrust rating (selectable).

I talked to a few WN pilots after ATA folded, they said the company realized they messed up. They couldn't say how much it cost WN to create all that from scratch.

If someone has 17 years of ETOPS experience and is still not getting an interview, they are either terrible at resume writing or they are blacklisted at that airline.
I think there is such a thing as too much experience when trying to make it to a major. It’s like, if you have anywhere from 2-5 years or so, great, but if you have much more than that, they’ll start to wonder why you haven’t made it to a major before now. I was getting on the high side of amount of experience myself when I made the “jump” at about the ten year mark (the short answer for why in my case is 9/11) so I know it’s possible to get to a major with more than a few years of dispatching under your belt…but you shouldn’t put off applying for openings that you see, either. Just my opinion. YMMV.

From what I am hearing, in this case neither of those are true. Some people are telling me if your resume does not indicate prior dispatch experience or FlightKeys experience, the algorithm is automatically sending out the TBNT letter. I don't know if this is true, but its what I am hearing.

Also of note, talking to some people it sounds like Dispatch management requested a lot more people than the 13 in this class, but the beancounters only approved 13. Not sure what is going on here as the overtime worked last year equaled over 60 dispatch lines. Can't believe paying out that much overtime is cheaper than hiring new bodies. Take that for what it's worth and with a grain of salt.

They didn’t say when we’d hear, and last Thursdays interviews were rescheduled for Today and Tomorrow. If they wanna be fast, maybe we’ll hear by Friday, but no airline moves fast 🤣
They really should if late January is still the target start date....

I’m hearing the class may be (probably) moved to early February now. But nothing is for sure, AA likes to keep us guessing. I had asked someone in the know when we would be hiring and was told the company still had zero interest and it would be a while. Next day the posting was up. We asked for 57 and were approved 13. We had more retirements than that in the last year, and have many more scheduled to happen. I’m hoping with all the people they interviewed there will be a pool for a second class but again… who knows. Best of luck to all of you that interviewed. Would be nice to have some fresh blood from different shops around here, and we could use some experienced dispatchers. Hopefully they’ll make offers starting next week.

If you have 17 years of ETOPS dispatching experience and dont mention dispatch experience in your resume then you have a bad resume.

A lot of the overtime last year was IROPS, weather and flightkeys training driven. We made it through a major IROP last week without any floor support so I imagine it wont be long before the remaining floor support are moved back to their bid lines, reducing available overtime.

I dont think management wants to set a workload precedent by making seasonal and irops, extra desks permanent every day desks.
