Kansas City PEPC

capttiffany posted it on post #132. scroll up a few posts.

Thank you for posting a response so sysinct. I thought I was going to have to have a small rant (I think I will anyways).

I probably only spend a combined 2 hours a day on here physically reading and responding and I am able to read EVERY post in Air Traffic and read posts in the Lav and other forums.

Pleez, all... do us a favor and make sure you're keeping up with posts before you ask a question that was answered in the past 48 hours. :)

I am starting to feel like I am the only one who hasn't received the PEPC confirmation email yet!! I got the invite on Friday the 10th at 3:00 pm - I was already at work so I didn't send it back till that night. Why haven't I received anything back yet?? Calling them got me nowhere as I just got my HR rep's voicemail. Anyone else in the same situation??

Give it time dude...wasn't monday columbus day so the Feds didn't do anything. It may take a little time to clear the backlog. I just got my start time today and I replied last friday.

7:00am on the 11/19...DOH! 7am....awe shucks..

Appointment: 11/17/08 Monday
Appointment Time: 10:00:00 AM

I got a hotel by the airport and a rental car. If you're willing to throw a few bucks of gas money at me, I don't mind playing taxi to and from PEPC on Monday. Send me a PM.

Me either.. I got the first email saying to accept or deny the offer for PEPC with locations /options, dates to choose form. I responded to it, then got an email from another person saying they are my HR Rep responsible for hiring me, and to send back the two forms, and they will contact me at the end of October for a interview or PEPC date???

I'm lost

-Thomas

ZDC... i hope

UPDATE: I received my offer letter with the PEPC dates on Tuesday 10/14, 3 days after almost everyone else - and yes, I sweated it out lol.

The REASON is because they went alphabetically backwards from Z-A through the Alphabet (the one time in my life Anderson comes last) and as a result I was one of the last ones to reply with my PEPC preferences and I can now confirm that KC is full... so if anyone wants to trade, I have a tempting LA PEPC date along with a gracious disposition for anyone who wants to wait until January and make me a happy man... :)

Radio Flyer, I was thinking if they told me KC was full I probably would have gone "Non-PEPC" it will probably be faster than waiting 3 months to even get STARTED.

Has anyone else noticed the hotels downtown are a bit expensive? Are you all staying by the airport?

Rather than start a new thread, I'll ask this here.

What is everyone planning on doing as far as lodging and transportation in KC?
If it was in Boston or New York I would be fine, but, I'm more unfamiliar with Kansas City probably more than any other city. Never been there.

Getting a flight and booking a hotel is nothing. I'm talking about, say, getting from the airport to the hotel, then from the hotel to the PEPC, and so on.
What are you guys planning on doing?

I figure the answer will probably be taxi's, but since I've never been there, I don't really know what to expect. I guess I sort of have an image of the Midwest in my head that's more than likely very inaccurate.

If you get a hotel by the airport, then chance are the hotel will have a complementary shuttle service every 15-30 minutes by the baggage area. If you're old enough, you can rent a car through expedia or priceline for about $30 a day.

Mrbucket, I just finalized the specifics for PEPC trip. I get in on Sun and get a rental car. Piker is right that it's cheaper if you can rent. Otherwise the cab fee is $35 each way. For less than the two trips (to town and back to the airport) I have transportation for whatever. I have been told there is a shuttle from the airport also for $16, but I don't know the route or how long you will be sitting on it. As for getting to the PEPC from the hotel. I got a room about .2 mi from the 901 address so walking isn't out of the question.

Awesome. Thanks for the input. I thought about walking also. With my luck I'll get caught in the rain with a suit on.
I know at some places you have to be 25 to rent a car, and others are 21. I'm 22, so I need to look into that...

MrBucket, when I took the AT-SAT in Dec I was 24. Most places (not Hertz, not even if you're on business!:banghead:) will rent you a car but they charge you a $75-100 fee. I rented from Avis and it was like $118 for a Kia Rio with a garmin nav for one day.

I went to Priceline yesterday and put in for a 4 star hotel at $55.00. they accepted and I got the Hyatt Regency Crown Center 2345 Mcgee Street Kansas City, Missouri 64108. It totaled to $74.00 after taxes for one night. My friend did the same thing and got the same rate today!

Comfort Inn/Suites room 6 blocks from MCI FSDO = $100
Rental car for 24hrs = $36
Plenty of space open to non-rev on to MCI = Priceless
Day Off Work = Picture Perfect!

I'm staying at La Quinta from Saturday to Tuesday. It is less than 3 miles from the PEPC site. Total was $224.31. What really sucks is that since I am under 25, I get charged with an additional fee of $25 a day to rent a car!

Flight is $199 with Airtran from ATL
Hotel is $224.31 at La Quinta for 3 nights
Total: $423.31 without rental car

I'm just going to turn it into a mini vacation with visits to the Kansas City Zoo, a Chiefs game, etc.
