It's that just a general observation, or are you speaking to the accident aircraft specifically?
You dont know why people rich enough to charter a jet might go to vegas in the middle of the night for a few hours and then hop back home before day break?
Based on other posts the plane was based at French Valley and the pilots were borrowing it to take their significant others and friends to Vegas, so…Or cancelling IFR into an airport that was certainly in IMC. Unless he really didn’t check the weather.
I’m curious about fuel reserves which may have added to the pressure to make French valley.

Spending two hours RT in an airplane, even a private jet, to spend three hours in Vegas doesn't sound like fun to me, no.
Then again, after looking at the co-pilot's wife's Insta, this trip was probably less about practicality and more about, "let's do this because we can while giving us good superficial material for our social media".

Lol, I literally did this to hitch a Challenger ride to LAS with @DPApilot and meet up with @derg and others in LAS for about 3 hours even tho it meant one-way tickets home on the last Southwest flight for $250+ one way because it was the day before Thanksgiving. Several of my friends did the same. I wouldn't say this surprises me at all, especially with everyone in their 20s and 30s and the jet likely being paid for to whatever extent. If I had the resources to jet out to LAS at 10PM to do an activity with my buddies then be in my own bed by 5 or 6AM, hell yeah I would lol. Different strokes for different folks.Spending two hours RT in an airplane, even a private jet, to spend three hours in Vegas doesn't sound like fun to me, no.

Dad will never let us borrow the car again!Imagine how mad the boss will be when you crash his jet!
Interesting that they both only had commercial certs vs ATPs. Two thoughts, they must have been pretty low time to not have been issued ATPs on their type rides. And, secondly, I’m surprised that a 135 operator (I’m assuming they worked for a 135 outfit based on a previous post) can insure the PIC of a jet like this with such low time.
Looking at the planes on the certificate, I'd guess the lack of ATP is more likely budget related. The Citation wouldn't be heavy enough to qualify for ATP-CTP course. They'd have to do that separate vs just getting types in the Citation. We don't know yet whether this is 91 or 135. So possibly a case of why spend the money if not required for the operation?
It sounds like the Citation was on a certificate, but neither of the two pilots were legally PICs for the certificate, plus their friends and family were riding on a flight in the middle of the night….
Sure sounds like it wasn’t an authorized flight by the certificate holder, which will be an awkward conversation with the FSDO about operational control.
