C550 down in California French Valley Airport

25 year old dude with a wet commercial ticket and your money is on the plane being at fault? K.

Both pilots mentioned in the article have commercial certificates with CE-500 PIC type ratings, and limitations of "SIC required'. One earned that rating in April 2022 and the 25 year old did the same in April 2023.

Looks like the guy sitting in the right seat wasn't any more experienced.

Yikes.

I'm kinda curious why they chose to leave at 3AM. It sounds like the two pilots worked for the little charter outfit that owned the airplane and they took the plane to Vegas for the weekend for pleasure. The pilot's gf and the co-pilot's wife were aboard along with another couple. I'm curious to see the tox-screen results.

You still need someone who doesn't have delusions of grandeur about being the boss' best buddy and the ability to say no. Glass or no glass.
Maybe I wasn't clear in my original message. I completely agree. The avionics don't matter much here.

For the sports related charters, I think it's actually to avoid paying the crew's overnight expenses. Most of those seem to be buddies who pool their money together to pay for the charter. Nobody touching down at 2am is going to be functional the next day.

Overnight fees is a drop in the bucket in the grand scheme of it all. It's mostly just get-home-itis. Flying on private jers is all about the luxury of leaving when you'd like to leave. Most charter clients aren't factoring fatigue factor and etc...They just know they paid huge amounts of money for a service sold to them (by an overly zeloue broker) and they expect it to go as they planned.

This is very sad to read. I feel horrible for these poor children. 11 of them :(

“We lost six wonderful souls (who) unfortunately left behind 11 kids,” Morris said. They range in age, he added, from a newborn to 11 years old.

Hey but on the bright side you got to get a dig in on “corpies”.

Of course. I gave it a moment of silence on the thread.

You want to get down to the meat of the matter? Who calls their boss and asks to “borrow” a company jet and just take it to Vegas and fly back at 3am, when the airport is reporting 1/2 mile and fog with only 1 approach available, an RNAV to 18, in a clapped out C525?

Dumb people. Trust me they exist at our virtual airline. We have lost operational control this year due to what I would consider the same impulsive stupid behavior that led to this accident.

We just have better gatekeepers that control stupid people better.

Trust me I’m no fan of what I encountered at two different 135s and a 91 operator. I’ve been blasted for calling it out. But I’ve seen plenty of dumb stuff in the last 5 years.

121 is just inherently better - and safer.

That said, losing “operational control” is actually a really specific term. The PIC and dispatch jointly share operational control. You can PM me, but I’d like to hear what you heard.

Not saying there hasn’t been dumb stuff, but the dumb stuff that is making it into ASAPs and IRs is also happening at other airlines - including Delta, United, and American.

Yeah it's what I am trying to say. There are dumb people everywhere. But at the airlines we have FOQA, ASAP and about a million other things to keep the dumb people corralled. Corporate has it too. Just not the places you wind up reading about.
