Meetup/Retreat

I think everyone has a different set of priorities than others. For me it was bases and stability of the regional. Granted stability is something that changes at regionals quite quickly but you can get a good idea of some to avoid right when you get in. Some might look at upgrades, pay scales, contract work rules etc etc etc.

I'm not saying it's an easy or quick decision to make, it's not. But this clown constantly suggesting it is and you're otherwise dampening your career has to be one of the most shocking and immature recruiting tactics I've seen. He's even gone as far as attacking any carrier outside the big 3.

I always tell people take all advice on the internet with a grain of salt, we all got a different story and a different set of goals and priorities. But this guy needs to be avoided like the plague and should be ignored by any cadet, CFI, pilot trainee, or hell even professional pilot.

My priorities when time comes is it an ALPA carrier. But, honestly as a SKYW cadet they owe me $20k towards my loan, if I pass indoc… o_O

Decisions. Decisions.

See....$20k off your loans is a huge deal and Skywest is a very reputable regional with a tremendous success rate of people moving on. The ALPA carrier thing is a pain I know, I still don't like the way they get pawned off and just act like it's roses over there. But obviously maybe I'm biased on why I think it's a good regional to work for. :p They for sure had their share of issues andI know it got amplified during covid.

Makes me feel like a loser reading this. If I only I worked for a reputable airline. May be one day before I'm old and grey.

Sigh

If that’s the case, that’s where you should go. Skywest is a reputable carrier.

SkyWest provides feed for 4 different mainline partners and owns much of their own fleet. That's a good reason to go there as you'd probably be safer from "Compassage" than at most regionals. Especially with regionals getting Comaired left and right these days.

The way survey works the only time you’d spend in Rome is initial training. After that you’re living on the road. Kinda wish I’d done it when I was young and single.
Ah, gotcha. Lots of night flying too yeah? Although that's mostly all I did as CFI too, nothing wrong with that lifestyle.

AFAIK only on repo legs.

Generally yes.

Lidar can usually be done at night, but most camera systems the survey work is day-only, and the sun has to be at least a certain angle above the horizon. I don't know if Landcare has any Lidar planes, at Air America there was 1 but most of the fleet was regular cameras.

That makes more sense. Wasn’t suggesting you’d have trouble after Indoc. Just stating that no one fails Indoc unless they don’t want to be there.

I'd hope that I wouldn't, washing out is actually kind of a worry for me. Having never have gone through a 121 type ground school.
