Skywest Questions

I don't think ALPA is interested if we vote yes. That's the way I understood from the group talking to ALPA currently. They are waiting to see the results.

Oh okay. I figured if it's voted in, it might be largely due to apathy. And that there could still be a strong undercurrent of anger (especially with senior FO's and Captains) as a result, that angry gnash cluster might still be able to trigger a drive.

Granted, I'm not talking to people in Herndon very frequently these days, but that doesn't sound right. Such a thing has never been a consideration in determining the viability of an organizing drive in the past. The size of the OC and their enthusiasm and involvement is what triggers an organizing drive.
The main guy in charge of discussing organizing told us this is what Rino said regarding our TA and moving forward...

"ALPA is in the assessment phase with OO and they will wait till after the Vote and based on how the pilots vote they will use that as part of the assessment."

I took that as if we vote yes, it won't be good for our ALPA assessment. I could be wrong in saying they aren't interested at all (especially with 4600 pilots), but that's how I interpreted it.

How long is the window open to vote, how long til announced and when would it go into effect if passed?

Window closes “on or about the 21st” at 8pm SGU time. They normally announce it a couple of minutes after it’s closed. If passed should go into effect right away

My understanding from talking to a current line pilot is that the pay rates wouldn't increase for a year, but you'd likely lose the bonuses right away. Is this correct?

How convenient for them. They will enjoy utilizing us to maximum by the old pay rates until the slow season begins, but our bonuses which will cost payroll more thanks to the Tax Break will be removed immediately. What a crappy deal.

Wait...you...where?
We haven’t even had a “congrats to someone” thread!

Keeping it on the DL ish for meow

Very true, and I chalk this lack of solidarity due to the fact that we are such a large airline dispersed over a large geographic expanse; each domicile's pilot group is virtually an airline unto itself. A pilot based in Atlanta hails from a different background and mindset than a pilot located in Fresno who has flown for SkyWest for possibly thirty years, while the former might only have worked here barely three months. This situation is immensely favoring management since it makes it harder for us to relate to one another or even to establish regular communications with ease.

I think that someone said it best already, the most opportune time for us setting up a union has long sailed into the sunset.
Having been based in PSP LAX SFO MSP, and having also flown “all the damn airplanes” in my time here, I think this mentality is ridiculously dumb.

Mentality IS ridiculously dumb but “damn millenials won’t change my damn mind! Good for nothing free loaders!!!!!1!!!”

They fail to see the irony in calling millenials free loaders while riding the coat tails of ALPA. Things won’t change there. Ever. I hope I’m wrong. The economy will tank soon enough. People will be stuck there. Airlines will be taking cuts. Skywest won’t because “1% COLA.” Hiring will pick up in a decade. The mid-late 20 year olds are approaching 40 with a family. QOL is good. Pay is livable. And they weren’t furloughed. They didn’t even take a concession in the downturn*. “Skywest is a family airline that treated us well in bad times. You damn generation XXXXXXX. Bunch of free loaders.” Rinse. Repeat.

*Nevermind the fact they took numerous concessions during good times.
