Hello! Jumping into the 121 world and I'm currently considering between Skywest or psa/piedmont. Hows life currently at skywest, talks of a new pay raise? Would you recommend coming here as a new hire? Thanks.

Skywest is pretty great but it depends upon your personal situation. I think that the pay will be close to equal, especially considering profit sharing and all that.
Biggest concern I would have would be domiciles. Go to the airline with a domicile where you actually want to live. Commuting will drain your soul.

Where do you live? What type of experience are you looking for? What are your goals?
My experience has been good, but that can't be said for everyone. I came here for my reasons and overall I'm happy. Things could be better, pay could be better. But things could be better at any regional.
Not really sure how pay talks are going. They've said they've turned down a few proposals, but who knows what's true. I'd assume they aren't going very well to get Republic or Endeavor pay rates (if that's what you're asking).

I'm willing to move close to base. Family in chicago and california. I'm looking long term into the airlines/legacies. I've always heard good things about skywest but the other forums seem to be pretty vile from what I read. The things I like about skywest is how many bases they have over the country, routes, size, own most of the airplanes and seem like they will be around for a while. What interest me about psa/piedmont is not so much the bases but being wholly owned by american, flow, and flight benefits. My concern is with skywest I might not get hired by american, but with psa/piedmont im not particularly excited about thier base options and they seem much smaller in size. If I were to get stuck at a regional for some reason, I think I would be happier with skywest.

If American is where you want to end up, I would encourage you to apply to an ANG unit that operates fighters.... Or just become an astronaut.

If you want to go to American, I'd say a wholly owned is the way to go. I'm pretty sure our hiring statistics at other carriers had AA at like 1-2% last time I saw. It was old data though.
I live in base here and love a lot about Skywest so far. Unfortunately, I live in a senior domicile so I won't ever touch it after I upgrade. So keep that in mind wherever you go. Movement is fast, if you live in a junior domicile like ORD you can become senior fast and get a better lifestyle. Upgrade will be fast and you'll still be driving to work. That's a big deal in this industry, IMO. If you aren't stuck on moving onto AA specifically, we do have a lot of guys moving up.
If I had to pick a regional to be stuck at today, I'd still come here. If I wanted more money or guaranteed career progression, I'd go elsewhere. Not that you should have issues moving on or you won't get paid here. I'm just admitting that things could be better at another regional. It fluctuates a lot though, in 6 months we could be better off. Who knows.
If you have any specific questions I'm always down to give a little bit of my 2 cents. Take it with a grain of salt, my experience here has been good so far. I only have 1 1/2 years in though. Some have much more around here. Feel free to PM!

So, what if any are SkyWest reserve rules? Do they have long call or short call?

Long call 12 hours, short call 2 hours, bid days off on PBS and put your preference for AM/PM/LC.
AM/PM is dependent on the base but you can expect AM to be 4am-4pm, PM 9am-9pm. Reserve proffering to bid for open time trips if you want to fly (if you don't the computer will bid for you anyways). 12 days off in a 30 day month, 13 off in a 31 day month. Pay is 76 hours.
Whatever you pick up on your days off goes on top of 76, so a few locals can bring you to 86-90 easily. Then gamble to hopefully get a some days at home not called. (If you live in base)

Our Long Call completely sucks unfortunately. They can convert you to short call up to seven times per bid period (e.g. each month).

Indeed, they will, because they can. Reserve at SkyWest is not a joyful spring hayride.
It is the reason I think so many bypass upgrade. It's that bad.
