Ok, I'll eat the crow I deserve, or how I learned to love the Bus.

With all the Corona talk, I figured I'd necropost.

I've flown a few hundred hours on the bus now, and while it's a pretty easy life, I just haven't been able to get into it. Sure the tray table is nice, but the plane's silliness has me appreciating 175; even the 727 FE panel made more sense than the Airbus.

But last week...

I’ve been upfront on a 737's so many times, but this was my first as a legit Airbus driver. I was grateful for the ride, but what a colossal piece the 737 is. Those guys must have touched the temperature switches 15 times before top of climb. And the windows are so small, and without built in sunshades! Bleed, and electric switches operated manually? And the pressurization panel is basically from the 72. Watching those guys using a yoke – what a waste of space. And those thrust levers just looked awkward moving themselves.

It hit me, I’m happy to be an Airbus person. It really is a good life. I guess, I have indeed, learned to love the bus.

Oh god. I’m about to be displaced off the Bus to the 737. :(

Unless the Coronavirus has put their plans on hold.....

yadda yadda..... I guess, I have indeed, learned to love the bus.
I'm a fan boy, no doubt. I wish the bus had a vert profile like the 170, as well as an integrated radio, like the 170. However, for an '80's designed and produced bird, she does well.

There are so many differences between the various A320s from over the years, it's almost impossible to compare a clapped out United one to the brand new Chinese NEO's we have.

With all my admiration of the bus, I would fly a 737 for proposed AA rates. I can say that because I know that will never happen.

Hmmm... all that sounds like pilot stuff to me. But I'm almost as old as the 737, so WTF do I know?

A long time ago, when I was a mere pup being recruited to a tug line, an old vet of State/CIA explained the world to me: "As I was walking the streets of Tripoli, I engaged in a conversation with a young person of the city. He asked me to tell him about America. As I thought about how to explain America to this young man, I suddenly had a moment of insight. I realized this kid could easily come to understand my culture in about 10 minutes. ... It would take me a lifetime to understand his."

I'm debating the next bid move as well........Airbus 319/320.....or back to the 737 at my current operator (which I'm being told is way easier than the other airline's way of doing business).

Part of me is down for the challenge to see what all the rage is about for the Airbus, yet another part might find it easier to go back to the 737NG's.
(Since the past 2 years have been 1600'ish hours on 737/757/767 products)

Being displaced off the 757/767 really stinks.....but the last flight as of this posting i operated was a repo LAX to Roswell. Parked it in the conga line behind a bunch of other bids. Sad, but fitting possible end since they'll probably have the 757's phased out before I'd be able to hold it again.

If I was a west coaster, I’d do whatever fleet took
me out to Hawaii for overnights. I’ve never been, but I assume it beats MAF overnights.

As of now, between the Bus & 737, only the 737 has ETOPS.
That enters the holy molly level of senior folks to anything pacific now on the 737 since the 757/767 closed not only in LAX, but SFO as well.

Sadly, there is a slim chance I may end up getting displaced from the 73 back to the bus. As long as I remain employed, it's all good for now.
