Ok, I'll eat the crow I deserve, or how I learned to love the Bus.

From an article I read recently:

Gordon Phillips retired in 2013 after 46 years as one of Qantas's most senior pilots. Most of his career was spent flying Boeing aircraft (707s, 747s, 747-400s and 767s), but for the last three years of his career he flew the Airbus A380.

WHICH IS THE BETTER AIRCRAFT TO FLY?

"I felt more in control of a Boeing. It was more satisfying as a pilot, more hands-on. The A380 is more technologically advanced, far more spacious and quiet than the 747. I'd prefer to fly the 747-400, but I'd prefer to be working on the A380."

Well, it carries 148 passengers, but I'm talking about the ones in the cockpit. Going to work tomorrow, I'll post a pic of them.

I've only been a year off the 80, but I'd forgotten about the fold out's in the cockpit. Do yours still have the periscope to check the gear?

The bus is a better "office", for sure and it's a bunch less work than the guppy. I've never been accused of being tall, and the 73 is not comfortable at all. I don't look forward to being in this thing for five or six hours. We just finished the first week of sim, I know it's going to wear off quick (probably one day of flying, or so) but it's been kind of fun, getting "back to my pilot roots" so to speak.

The HUD was a fairly steep learning curve for me, but it's very cool, makes engine failures a piece of cake. After years of auto lands, the hand flown 600 RVR CAT III's are interesting. If we only had EVS.

Oh ya, the trim...I think I left part of my knee cap on the trim wheel last night.

I still have airbus captain at the top of my standing bid list, I should be able to hold it by the time my seat lock is up.

Says the guy who probably can't even find his way around a real pilot's airplane. o_O

I only have one question. Why are there so many clocks in this, could you ol' timers not tell time?..............

Zing!

PS. A real mans airplane has the tail on the ground (on purpose mind you) and engines that are round, leak oil and catch on fire.

They're generally still in use in places where chickens roam free and liquor and alcohol are valid forms if currency.

T-14 days until she becomes beer cans and Moto-Art keychains.

Yup. September 30th they all head to Victorville. Then Oct 1st the Max -8 goes into service.

No. There is no nav map on the radar. You have to use airmanship. [emoji6]

Kidding, but seriously we used to joke about it in the -300s at USAir. We called it FMS by Braille.

Before my time, but when the 80's were new, they came with omega. It was the same setup, no ND, only the HSI.

Our first MAX -8 will be here shortly. Everyone got their one hour of on line differences training this quarter.

Before my time too, but when I first flew the 737-300/400 it looked exactly like our -300s do today. Only difference is that today we have GPS in addition to INS.

In the 90s when I first flew it we only had INS. So when we flew from Philly down to the islands for example, there would be a considerable amount of INS drift. So as soon as you got close to the islands and it was able to fix its position using dme/dme, there was a huge map shift. The CDI would go full scale left or right and the airplane would make a big turn to get back on course.

GPS inputs is a huge improvement to say the least - even if we still don't have an ND

As an Airbus pilot, I keep wondering what the heck these tray tables are you guys keep talking about.

I keep looking for it, but there is a yoke in the way.
