Hats at 'Merican?

I wore my hat to get oriental food in Seatle today. I'm happy I did, some cop or something was snapping pictures.

It is generational. My parents and grandparents look at a pilot wearing a leather jacket and see him as a professional and want him as their pilot. They see a pilot wearing a blazer and think it is a "male stewardess" and don't trust him. Just an observation.

It's not that generational. My wife says the same thing, and she is in her 30's. My LAA leather jacket has served me well and kept me warm for many years, I'll miss it. FWIW, I can't ever remember flying with an 80 captain, who had "captain" on his name tag, even the CKA's.

I'm at Southernjets, so, NO. But some still don't wear them. Don't care. The ones I have an issue with are the ones who walk around with it in their hands, so when accosted by the Hat Police, they can quickly put it on. If you are going to make a statement, have the stones to back it up. Leave the hat at home and tell the HP to go shove it.

"Where's your hat?"
"It's in my bag."
Why aren't you wearing it?"
"It's too small."
"Why don't you get a bigger one?"
"It wouldn't fit in my bag."

Hat Police? Are they the same branch as the APU Sheriff?

An overcoat is proper outerwear when wearing a suit. Done properly, you should look like Gordon Gekko on the way to ruin some lives.

I was speaking to the comment about the leather jacket as layover wear. The "trench coat with jeans" look is dumber, IMHO. Personally, I think the "all weather coat" looks more like a "uniform" item, but it's not long enough to be useful. Plus the trench coat is a royal PITA when doing walk arounds, if any bending or kneeling is required.

Idk what southern jets is. Yea I could care less if they were mandatory and someone didn't wear them. Just saying when they're optional and someone wears them most of the time they're a tool.
